let's think about it... maybe Nintendo should keep improving the Wii Remote and accessories. Sony and Microsoft just "copied" their ideas to be more popular, so they became with the PlayStation Move and the Kinect. For me, Nintendo should stay alert and keep improving the console. |

TheOmegaDragon : Ahhh but see, Nintendo has already started adding more games that don't require the Wiimotes or motion controls. It probably started with Brawl, allowing you to use all types of input known to the console.
Then, I see Monster Hunter Tri with no required motion control, and now the GoldenEye remake coming to the Wii will let you use all different types of input too, without requiring motion control. And plus, with some games in the past that rarely requires you to use motion, I don't think they've taken it too far. In fact, with MotionPlus, I think it's getting better. Just look at Zelda: Skyward Sword. I have to agree with your opinion here. Just like in almost any other business it always seems to come down to making sure your competitors don't have a leg-up on any of the products or services that you offer. It's why you always see the copy-cat products that come out for anything.
I think Sony & Microsoft just took a bit too long for this motion control strategy. They probably originally didn't think the Wii was going take off the way it did (especially with the non hard-core gamer). So now that they both are way behind Nintendo in the social gaming they needed to come out with these "new" products that aren't actually that different from the Wii's motion control. I can't wait to see what the next gaming technology will be once we start getting past all the motion control stuff currently. Each of the companies is competing to bring out the best in new gaming technology. They seem to be set on interactive to make the games "feel more than just games". In the future I bet Nintendo will keep coming out with new consoles like the wii, where as the makers of Playstation and Xbox with try and mimic it. |

Sony will and always were theives. Microsoft has jumped ahead with NO controler but the wii was the first to have motion control and sony said well they havnt come out with a HD wii (which is the next home consol that nintendo is making) so lets make a rip off and have it on the ps3. they have stolen many ideas from other game companies. microsoft and nintendo are the only ones that do come up with original ideas. sorry i just...hate sony, but nintendo thought well people think video games are bad because you sit with a controller and push buttons. so they said well lets get them off the couch and moving so the wii was born. they did come out with the power glove earlier but that sucked ( i had one...it sucked) so they just updated the power glove. microsoft thought well they got the wii but they still have a controler, lets make it without the controller. well it works...at least at e3 it did but im not fully convinced. its gotta have some draw back that makes it not work. i just dont see how it reads your movments so well. but im sure thats where video games are heading is to wirless and no controllers. pretty soon we will be IN the game with like full body suits lol. and im sure the always so original sony is gonna come out with the PSP3D...cause they have so much originallity. |

from what I've seen, the motion control games are very popular, but it should have only stayed with Nintendo when those types of games were released. the PlayStation move stuff will be bought, they buyers realize they pretty much wasted there time for something better they can get on the wii, and it will just be put aside and collect dust. its pretty pointless for them to make that =/. |

I think that Natal (now known as Kinect) will be an absolutely brilliant addition to gaming. I can see something like a DB-Z game that sells millions of copies, because you can actually imitate the moves that the people use in the series. Anyways, I hope to get it eventually, as it might help make me more active. |

Motion controls have finally been made marketable thanks to the Wii, for one. Another good reason is the fact that we now have the technology to make more functionable motion controls. Here's a few systems before the Wii that had them out of the box, or were made as some form of a controller or add-on.
PS2 had the Eyetoy, which seemed to do quite well, but the form of motion control it had wasn't controller based, but a more literal form. You actually were the controller with this little piece of hardware for the PS2. Not sure if many remember this brilliant thing, but I sure do. I even want one, but kept second guessing myself. I'd consider it the hardware that made motion control more wide-spread in acceptance, and control stability. Why do I seem to be making it seem like one of the first rather than the first? Well... Get ready for another piece of hardware that was more or less a system, but it didn't have all the stuff typical systems have in the guts of it. The XaxiXport was a home console that came out after the Eyetoy did. It used controller based motion controls, and every game that came out for it used a different controller. It did very badly in the market, but it is a piece of video game history that is there. The console was very small, and the first question you'd ask when you saw it was, "Where do the games go?" Well... The games actually may as well been called add-ons, because they had the parts that typical consoles had inside them. If you pretended this system was a human, you'd get a human who could give birth asexually. The babies all would have an organ that the system didn't need to survive. Since this console only had about four games minus any after market games, the system lacked a gallbladder, an appendix, the ability to smell scents, and one kidney. It had the important stuff, but the games had the stuff that allowed for data storage and the like. Now for an infamous motion control controller. Yes, I'm talking about the Power Glove. The worst attempt at motion control to ever exist. The NES also had a few other controllers that could be considered motion-based, but they were just crap that only seemed like they were motion-based. One of these includes that one that was much like skateboard controllers for a few games we have today. It was made by LJN, though, so you know what that means. Motion Controls are popular due to success. Why did we have a huge amount of consoles get wireless controllers in the PS2 days? Why did we see tons of Space Invaders clones in the Atari 2600 days? All trends in gaming happen when a concept is successful. This is actually a good thing for the gaming industry since it means more money, and more money means more games. Why all the motion controls ? I will tell you why. Because it´s a great concept!
Let´s imagine that it´s the future, you just bought the latest Elderscrolls game and you go home to your gaming rig with the CD and a few extra items that came with the game, your gaming rig consists of a swing very much like a baby swing except one that supports your weight at the chest area rather than near the hips, under the swing in a circular ball in the floor that rolls in a empty pocket in the floor that keeps it in place as you walk on it, but the swing having two poles rather than strings helps you keep your balance. You load your game and attach the items that came with the game to the sides of the swing, you then grab a light helmet or headgear you put on your head that gives you a 1st person perspective on the game, all around you are sensors that take note of your movements and the ball under you serves as floor where you can run or walk and even jump by stamping it increasing the force on the ball for it to register the movement as a jump. So you stand still on the large ball and press a button to reset the registered weight to fit it to your own weight, you then go through a tutorial of the game that shows you what item represents what in-game item, one perhaps that´s light and small with a handle that could count as a knife or a fork or a spoon or any other item of similar weight, and then perhaps one item that´s heavy and big and could count as a warhammer or a scythe or a battle-axe, and maybe yet another medium one that could count in weight and shape as a rapier or a katana or perhaps a small flail and so forth and so forth. And in game as you move the items the sensors register the movements in accordance to the scenario in game allowing you to interract with the game nearly 80% or so like as if it was in real life. This unreal idea I just brewed up in my head is ofc ridiculus now and if it would be implemented it would be done better, but if it was done would I buy it ? HELL YEAH! I´d be the first guy in line! The prospect of such control and real motions in accordance with a game is something that makes some nerds wet their pants in a series of nerdgasms & there could be a good profit involved in using motion sensors for better motion controls. It would be hard and is probably impossible right now, but the same goes for many inventions "lol u can use round wheel to move heavy rock ?" said the caveman, "HAH think humans can enter space ?" said the year 1700 farmer & "lol, motion controls are unreal man, no way we will have that implemented right ever!" said the 21st century nerd. Sorry if I wrote too much weird stuff. Ellert : I know what you're getting at, but what I meant was, why are the other companies like Microsoft and Sony starting to invest more in the motion control aspect when, in fact, they were completely fine making hardcore, controller-oriented games, while Wii was already investing in the casual motion control aspect(as much as I don't like the casual side of it) |

mdynasty926 : This new motion control trend is kind of like when the CD format got to the gaming industry. Everyone wanted a piece of it. Now that we are noticing how motion control can help get more money, other companies are giving it a try. In contrast to the money making part of this trend, when CD-based gaming stuff started coming out, it was because it was more of an experimentation thing. Actually, to be honest, it sorta is that was with motion control, only to a lesser extent, since we already experimented enough with motion control in the past, so now, why not just use what works best? EyeToy style motion control and Wii style motion control appear to be the kinds of motion control that work best for now. |

marioisawesome : While I don't think the motion control is advancing the industry, I don't think reverting back to the first gen is going to either. They should just focus on making games without too many gimmicks, and just make games awesome lol. |

Though I agree that it's usually better to have a controller in your hands instead of having to use motion sensitive devices, especially in small spaces, there will always be one advantage in motion sensitive. Namely it gets all us lazy fat gamers who don't get enough exercise otherwise to actually get off our backsides and to do something. I'm not saying all gamers are overweight, but I know I am, and my Wii made me get up and actually work for something. Plus there were games that did things with motion control that most wouldn't expect to be really exciting until they actually tried it. |

Yeah, their shouldn't be too many motion control consoles. Sony and Microsoft are just making too many Wii ripoffs. |

I wonder how much better they can make the motion controls because the graphics on the systems besides the Wii don't really have anywhere else to go as far as how good the graphics are. |

I think that the whole idea of motion controls is kinds dumb. For controllers are just better. I mean its just feels right to be holding in in your hands and not waving it around like some moron.
And i think is just Sony and Microsoft trying to make it appel to the people that have Wiis. And just getting it out there that 3D games are dumb to. just saying. These motion games tapped an untapped niche in the market when the Wii was released. It's one of those things that sounds really cool and that coolness seems to reach out to people who are not the usual videogamers. Since the Wii has been very successful, it's only business that Sony and Microsoft follow their lead and try to sway the market. It looks like 3-D is another trend gaining momentum. |
