Kelly Club - Clubhouse Fun
07-26-23 01:51 PM
Whatever happened to Kelly Roberts?
Oh Kelly, you have no idea how much I miss seeing you in the merchandise department, I’m old enough to remember when Kelly was introduced, she and her little crib and her little black dress and her pink nighty. But somehow in the 2000s, Barbie’s sisters were kind of phased out and hardly seen….and we can thank the Bratz for that (if they didn’t have to exist, then My Scene wouldn’t have to exist) granted the sisters were eventually brought back but, sigh Chelsie will always be Kelly to me…though it kind of bothers me that Skipper and Stacie never got their own thing, I mean they both have their own group of friends, but they never had their own individual product in such a long time like maybe not since Yo-Yo Skipper(which by the way got a shout out in the Barbie movie), I mean why bother introducing Chrissy if her older sisters are going to be horrendously underused, I think Kelly’s final appearance may have been Fun Treats Barbie and Kelly *one youtube later* apparently Kelly’s last major product was the Kelly and Friends dolls in 2007, because I guess they were trying to reintroduce her considering that now Barbie was no longer tied down with My Scene

Gameplay and Story: So Kelly and her friends (which includes Ken’s baby brother Tommy, another one in the brand that’s disappeared, no he wasn’t in the movie or the scene of discontinued Barbies) decide to perform a magic show just because, so we play minigames just so we can get find our friends so we can get special items so we can get the keys from our friends in order to find tickets for them to participate and watch the show (wish Barbie was watching the show too but neither she or any of the other Roberts sisters show up in the game)

Graphics: They are what they are considering it’s a game boy color game, I’m just sorry that Kelly’s staying power didn’t last long enough for her to get a game boy advance game but by then My Scene was about to start up, and even th... Read the rest of this Review
Odell Down Under
07-26-23 12:08 AM
mmmm....Fish
Yeah, I thought I was finished with the MECC games as well (I'm not going to ask for eXplore Yellowstone here because it's well there's no plot to it really), but I think this might be the last one, so I figured this should get a review too, it’s ones of my favourites

Gameplay and story: This is a bit of a sequel to Odell Lake except instead of choosing whether to eat the fish or dive to avoid being eaten, you basically have to go around a portion of the Great Barrier Reef (that’s why it’s called Odell Down Under), though there are three ways to die if there isn’t enough of the fish that is part of your diet or if you eat something poisonous (like the sea wasp, or the Anemone) or you can starve to death. The worst that can happen is if you click on the giant clam that normally hangs around ,You can also die from an infection if your health goes south but that’s what the cleaner fish are for, you go up to a blue streak cleaner wrasse and they bring your health back to normal, and there’s the banded coral shrimp they can clean you too, though you can also eat them. Basically, the main object of the game is to survive, gain the points you need to upgrade to a bigger fish

Graphics: Well, they are what they are considering this was a game released in the 90s, the Blacktip shark actually looks pretty good and actually looks like a shark, most of the fish there are fish I had never heard of before playing this game (though the barracuda doesn’t really look like a barracuda) I don’t know if there are certain points in the reef that have names but I know it’s bigger than those nine scenes we are given

Soundtrack: A good chunk of it is rather tropical sounding, it has a nice opening tune when you are at the title screen, though it plays during the gameplay as well, it has a very nice variety (when I share a gameplay here I will show it) however they’re not exactly something I would set to a multi hour loop on YouTube,... Super Solvers: Spellbound!
07-22-23 12:14 AM
Probably the weakest Super Solver title yet
Gameplay and Story: Attention all Super Solvers the Master of Mischief is challenging you to a spelling bee, can you make the finals at the white house? Morty doesn’t seem to have a diabolical plan here unless it was to have to robots get him to the finals by making them look like fools, and making him look good, because in this game we have the robots from Midnight rescue (in their original designs) and Telly from Outnumbered competing, we do not see Morty Maxwell until level 4 (and I think this may have been released before Gizmoes and Gadgets that's why the Chimps aren't included either....if the game got a remaster I'll bet they could have been)

Graphics: You know I really wish they remastered this game, it has the old designs of the robot (not the Super Solvers 9-12 redesign) and the Super Solver is wearing light blue rather than the regular blue outfit

Soundtrack: The game has one primary soundtrack and it’s the only one you hear on a ten second loop when you are at the spellbinder where the activities are, this felt extremely lazy, however the robots and Morty and the Super solver have their own themes when they enter the spelling bee stage, I shouldn’t complain about the voices for the Robots and for the Master of Mischief because I guess this was the first game where the Master of Mischief spoke, he doesn’t sound like a crazy person in this his voice is so deep

Addictive: It was when I was younger and it was kind of slow going because not long after I got the game fifth grade started

Depth: This game doesn’t offer alot it offers four different activities, the crossword activity is the only one that doesn’t change at all, normally I finish this game in about forty minutes, but recently I started playing on hard level and it took me almost an hour

Difficulty: This is the easiest super solver game ever (but then again I was a pretty good speller in my youth, and now spellcheck thinks it knows everyth... Read the rest of this Review
Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa (ver EA)
07-19-23 08:07 PM
Adult Mutant Cowboy Cows
Yeah this was a thing enough so that it even got an arcade game that feels like a Sunset Riders hack but that’s not a bad thing, now be aware for this review I haven’t seen an episode of Wild West C.O.W.Boys of Moo Mesa so you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t get something right (and if you think I’m being ridiculous with the title of my review there actually is a connection with the ninja turtles apparently they were supposed to be part of the TMNT verse but they were rejected….as villains)

Gameplay and Story: the game opens with Marshall Moo Montana’s love interest Lily Bovine being abducted by a Masked Bull who works for the corrupt mayor (yeah doing research while typing this) so now they have to go after them, and get past all the other baddies, die and you literally become steaks (and now I’m hungry, not for Steak just hungry) and yet for some reason the mayor doesn’t get taken down here (like I said I haven’t seen the cartoon) you shoot chickens to get power ups from eggs, you get a bull charge too which is a cool feature

Graphics: For some reason I felt like i was playing Sunset Riders game (which of course is another western game) the graphics kind of reminded me of that but this game is quite the opposite of it, but these were pretty good, not quite faithful to the cartoon but pretty close

Soundtrack: You know it’s a darn shame that not alot of the theme song is heard in the background because even in the few bits there are, I could tell this was a theme that went hard, and then I heard the song and yeah that’s pretty hard but did the guy that performed it ask for too much money? I will need to listen to the soundtrack again to get a good idea because if I played this more I would have more to say about it

Addictive: Well I definitely want to play it again but I work better on RetroArch with the games on this site and unfortunately the game is not playable on RetroArch here, I had to use a dif... Read the rest of this Review
The Oregon Trail 5th Edition
07-17-23 11:13 AM
Last one we promise!
And so we have come to the final Oregon Trail game that was made by The Learning Company does it go out with a bang of a rifle? Or the whimper of a Dysentery related death, let’s find out

Gameplay and Story So we open, with a Cut Scene, yes they added cut scenes to this game as well as characters we have to take along for the ride, the Montgomery siblings, Parker, Cassie, and Jimmy, but don’t worry they don’t get to suffer from Dysentery (though Jimmy does get bitten by a snake), they meet up with this trail guide that is a friend of their father’s (their mother dies before the events of this game), actually you could easily skip through their cut screens because they add NOTHING to the game, I get that the Cluefinders and Reader Rabbit games were very successful titles but I don’t think the cut scenes were necessary.

Graphics: well here’s where the game will lose some points, this is essentially a remake of Oregon Trail II, why? Did they lose their budget? Did Mattel’s purchase attempt leave a bad taste in people’s mouths? But they added new river crossing scenes, and something new we get pop ups from Jedediah and he lets us know how much stuff we hunted and gathered (don’t bother fishing it’s not possible performance wise at least on my boxes) The cut scenes are well animated though

Soundtrack: They recycled some of the soundtrack from OT2 but only for the locations, as well as the events

Addictive: Well once I started playing it I didn’t want to stop however even though I said I would play it for gaming season I just haven’t figured out when (maybe when I finish with Outnumbered because that’s likely going to be finished first)

Depth: well upside to this game is that no more multiple discs to use just one, and they added fishing and gathering to the statuses but Fishing by hand is kind of useless in this game (at least on my copy) but the good news is they did not take out the fishing eve... Read the rest of this Review
Treasure Cove! + Treasure Mountain!
07-13-23 11:34 AM
Looking for treasure in the mountains and the sea
So back in the early days of The Learning Company the Super Solvers weren’t always the super solvers they were known as the Super Seekers but they still had the Master of Mischief

Gameplay and story: The Master of Mischief is being a troublemaker, Treasure Cove takes place after the events of Treasure Mountain (which is why they are paired together here) if you haven’t seen the events of Super Solvers Midnight Rescue, you would know the Master of Mischief has experience with magic. So in Treasure Mountain he breaks into the castle at the top of Treasure Mountain steals the crown, hides the treasures and cast a spell on the elves on the mountain making them naughty too, a butterfly will guide you with new player hints and will let you know how many more gems you need to rank up, and then at the end of that the Master of Mischief was chased off the mountain (albeit after the events of Treasure Mathstorm!) and ended up back at his island which looks pretty awful, and since he wanted to get back at the elves for chasing him off he destroys the rainbow bridge which scares off the shy pufferfish and the gems are hidden behind sea creatures, and zapped the orange starfish so they would only talk in riddles and if he wasn’t slimy enough he drilled holes in the ocean floor and out comes these creatures called Goobies, he also added these sharks to the ocean, and now we have to clean up another one of his messes and a minnow will guide you in this game...well at least when that space station fell into the Ocean in Operation Neptune this was no one’s fault, but in this day and age there would have been a further investigation over what went wrong

And now for gameplay, basically if we want to move faster we need to flip in the Treasure Mountain game, however nothing will change our speed in Cove as we go up and down and left and right and not much else we hit enter to locate certain items and we hit the space bar to trap the elves and st... Troggle Trouble Math

Chow, er Puppy Chow!
No I guess I haven’t reviewed all the games in the Troggle franchise or all the Mecc games out there I think this might be the last one but I haven’t played Musuem Madness, I would request eXplore Yellowstone but I don't have alot to discuss about it

Gameplay and Story: So the Intro starts off where the Muncher who was basically the Mascot of Mecc is going along minding his own business and trying to answer a question (even though no Muncher games were formatted like that) when all of a sudden this robotic thing comes and abducts the muncher, we get a headline that shows he’s been abducted (he has a gag in his mouth and yet he has no arms) we are then introduced to Magenta who is this this inventor who lives in the town of Shady Glen I mean Santa Bongo, she explains what happened and who is behind the Muncher’s abduction, she doesn’t really serve a purpose in this game except to call you to find an item or if you’ve found the item, or if...well here’s where we are introduced to her dog Sparky, he’s the one who will do the heavy lifting in the game what we do with him is we move him through 5 different areas (three of which we have to play twice) munching on Sparky Treats to keep him going, unfortunately the troggles in the game like Sparky Treats too, so we need to use Magenta’s Troggulator (troggle zapper and calculator) to make these troggles go away because if these Troggles get to Sparky before we activate the Troggulator they will munch a whole box and Sparky will lose a life. We also use the Troggulator to answer questions in these math problems in these sheds and caves and logs and hidden areas so we can either find a flashing bone that can charge the troggulator (because that runs out of energy too, most of the time we have to do a lighting round of Math Problems to get it fully recharged) and yes we can gain extra boxes of Sparky treats too if we find hiding places carefully

Super Solvers Reading Ages 9-12
07-08-23 11:08 AM
If You Don't Leave I'll Cry
Do I really need to do an intro for this? Because there’s not much to say other than this was the first title in the Super Solver/Seekers series, and my first exposure to all things Learning Company because we all have to start somewhere (yeah Carmen Sandiego classic edition doesn’t really count because it was not a Learning Company original even though by then the franchise was owned by them)

Gameplay and Story: So Morty Maxwell, aka the Master of Mischief has made some robots and they are hiding out at Shady Glen Elementary School for one purpose....to make it disappear, and of course the Super Solvers have gotten wind of this and are planning to stop him. So Morty plans on hiding in one of the robots, and in order to succeed in his plan he has to stay hidden until midnight then they can use the disappearing paint to make the school disappear. In order for Super Solver to find the Master of Mischief he has to take pictures of the Robots and do a little light reading (we get excerpts from some well-known literature as well as newspaper articles from either Shady Glen or the school newspaper (and there’s also some hilarious Diary entries from people that went to school with Morty and even some school reports...including some from Morty...I hope he got a good mark on that Kangaroo report...wait how many rabbits did he say he have?) to find the clues because the clues in the reading material will coincide with what we see in the photos of the robots, granted most of the classic lit is kind of obscure I mean I didn’t know Mary Poppins Opens the Door was a book same goes for the Courage of Sarah Noble. Make sure you guess where the Master of Mischief is before midnight, because if you don’t the school will disappear.....all that happens is that the round you just played won’t count (though you get taken back to the sign in screen) however if you guess incorrectly the robot you wrongfully accused will hit you with disappearing paint and then the ... Candy Land
07-07-23 01:45 PM
Candyland can when it mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Well I think we all know it was going to come to this one day, reviewing a board game for PC, might as well start with something simple like Candyland, however the playing has not been made public yet, that won't happen unless I forget to have a Nancy Drew playing available

Gameplay and Story: The Candy King has been kidnapped…..by who? They never even say, (hell we don’t see him in a cage or anything when we do get to the end of the board everyone is meeting you like they did in the intro of the game we don’t even get a reveal of who did it) well what we do know is that it wasn’t the nasty licorice dude that always looks menacing on the game boards (no seriously in this game we trot across the game board and we can visit all the individual characters, but we don’t owe them favours or anything we just do stuff with them….where’s the fun in that? And oh by the way it’s established that Princess Lolly is actually the Candy King’s daughter…I guess it makes sense so what does that make the ice cream queen?) Mr Mint is the referee in this game

Graphics: I do like the graphics thought alot there are quick time movies for when we move around the game board so that’s kind of worthwhile, since this is a land full of candy of course it’s going to be rather colourful

Soundtrack: The song in the intro is adorably catchy but the rest of it is kind of unmemorable like, after I was done playing I didn’t remember a thing about it nor did it re-enter my head at unnecessary times. The voice acting is pretty good though they at least fit the characters

Depth: Oy this game can go by really quickly but this also depends on how much time you spend in certain areas of the game board, if you want something quick this is the game for you but if you don’t want to be board er Bored then I suggest something else. I had to do two playings, because it would have been too short to enjoy, I mean if we had to do a favour for th... Read the rest of this Review
Rescue Heroes - Fire Frenzy
07-06-23 10:57 AM
Nobody Gets Left Behind
Guess what! it's Reviews are worth more day in the Tour de Vizzed so you get something extra from me today (I decided to save the Kelly game for the next review day because at least then the Barbie movie will be out)

Of all the toy lines from the 90s, I’m surprised that the Rescue Heroes hasn’t made a legit comeback not even a new tv series, I mean the toy line did kind of keep trying to come back but with no bite (the person behind the Have You heard A Fashion Doll Retrospective account needs to do something on the Rescue Heroes even if they aren’t a fashion doll line) however while I was doing research for this review, I found out that they have rebooted the toy line and there’s a new digital series but I don’t think the toys have made their way to Canada, which is a shame because I liked the tv series (Wendy’s voice actress is a politician now, she’s actually going to reprise her role has Rogue in X-men ‘97) especially considering that we are in a world where we need first responders more than ever

Gameplay and story: So there is a forest fire so the Rescue Heroes are brought in, however it’s not based on the episode Fire in Field 13, and only a handful of Rescue Heroes are called up, Billy Blazes, Jake Justice, Ariel Flyer, Gil Gripper and Rip…wait who’s Rip? *one google later* Rip Rockefeller…again Who? Yeah it seems that he must have started showing up when the show was rebooted as Rescue Heroes Global Response Team….Was Jack Hammer busy? So we put out fires, evacuate people, and in Ariel’s activity we do both

Graphics: Well they look more like the toys do, even though Ariel Flyers wasn’t initially part of the original line (she debuted in the first season of the Nelvana series) and to be honest I prefer how they looked in the first season than in the Global Response Team, even though it developed the characters deeper….how come only a handful of characters got developed? Gil never got development... Read the rest of this Review
Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower
07-06-23 10:53 AM
Let them eat 50 drumsticks
So Today I filmed a gameplay of Nancy Drew Ghost Dogs at Moon Lake so I figured I might as well post a review for Treasure in the Royal Tower....so unless my feet get mysteriously warmed up I won't be reviewing any more Nancy Drew Games unless I play other Nancy Drew Games. So, Once again we get a Nancy Drew game that was based on one of the books

Gameplay and Story: Based on the Book of the same name (except once again Bess and George stay home) Nancy arrives at a Wisconsin Castle for a Ski Vacation only for a blizzard to set in (and it doesn’t end until after you get hit on the head by the suspect) she’s told by the caretaker that she has free run of the place except the Library as someone vandalized it the previous night and someone broke into another guests room, the suspects also include a photo journalist, a Ski Instructor that humiliated himself at the Olympics, and a professor who has a theory about Marie Antoinette that could change history (this is kind of important to the game because she spent a lot of time in one of the towers just as the revolution was breaking out, not to mention the ski instructor’s great grandfather was head of construction of the dissembling of the tower from France, and the caretaker was actually a former resident of the castle, he was the adopted son of the gentleman that built the castle and let’s just say that the Wickford castle story gets complicated from there) so basically it’s up to Nancy to figure out who the vandal is and assist the burglary victim (it’s actually worthwhile considering you help re-write history...hmm funny we actually see or rather hear from the professor two more times in the series and yet she hasn’t brought up the Marie Antoinette saga once) but beware the big bad may leave you out in the cold or trap you in an elevator

Graphics: The graphics are definitely upgraded, all of the suspects no longer look like they had plastic surgery nor do they move like a robot, ... Read the rest of this Review
Baby-sitters Club 3rd Grade Learning Adventures
07-05-23 09:19 AM
Hello? Baby-sitters club
So for those that recalled my “Why I was never into Harry Potter” thread I had said that I was never a heavy reader before the age of 11, however if I were to do my childhood over again (but in the 90s, I don’t want to be a child in this day and age) I would have read the Babysitters Club. This came out pretty late in the BSC’s run like in 1998 when they were about a year away from wrapping up the main series (yeah the series had plenty of spin-offs most notably Babysitters Little Sister which revolved around Kristy’s little Step-sister Karen) and making the finale series Friends Forever. Of course the Babysitters club has recently found a new audience thanks to the Graphic novels published by graphix and illustrated by the likes of Gabriela Epstein, Chan Chau, Gale Galligan and of course Raina Telgemier (her graphic novels are the best I do recommend them especially her graphic memoirs) as well as a short lived netflix series that got unfairly cancelled (geez it when will Abby get to be seen in live action media...more on that later I just hope the Graphic novels last long enough for her to make an appearance) Also this was released in the late 90s just when a wave of PC games meant for Girls was released (anyone remember Rocket? I’ve never played it but I’ve seen gameplay of it)

Gameplay and story: So it goes like this you are the newest student at Stoneybrook middle school and when you are trying to open your locker combo you are greeted by Claudia Kishi who is the Vice President of the Babysitters Club who welcomes you to Stoneybrook Middle School AND the Babysitters Cult I mean Club (uh, why? Considering how many members there already were at the time I would have been better off being an associate member, they don’t come to meetings and they only get jobs if everyone was booked solid for jobs) and then you are introduced to Mary Anne Spier (and you figure out how to pronounce her last name...it sounds like Spears) on the sign in scre... Road Adventures USA
07-04-23 07:39 AM
Welcome Road Warrior
So now I’m going to talk about another game that’s a pretty obscure Learning Company Title, it’s not even on the Internet Archive (I found my copy at a second hand book store)

Gameplay and story: So, a woman named Veronica Richards who doesn’t serve much of a purpose in the game except for meeting you at correct pitstops and at the finish line, has founded this cross country road race, why? I don’t know, maybe she wants young people to see more of the United States of America, yep this is a U.S. Geography game. You can pick between 5 partners, one of them a dog (yeah really but it actually is worth it because he won’t complain about the food, or the hotel you pick, hell if you go to the Globolodge you really save money, you get a room he gets a kennel) you pick between four cars and five routes and the final score will depend on how long it takes to get there and how much you ask for help, and the sanity of your partner at the end. They make it clear that it’s a competition however there’s no positions to be seen we are literally competing against ourselves.

Graphics: This was made by the same team that did Oregon Trail 4 so unfortunately this will have the same issues, see you have to have the display set a certain way (certain colours, certain screen resolution otherwise everything will look a little bit teal-ish like a sea of green) also depending on how your computer is the game might not work right for you however, this game has a way around the issue, if you hit quick start all of your partners are there, wish I had this in Oregon Trail 4, however it can be problematic still because you wouldn’t be able to get clues or tokens or see the people you talk to along the way, thankfully I have more than one virtual machine so it works great on one of them. We get to see well known attractions and we move at a 360 degree angle, we even get to go inside the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and see how it looked i... Read the rest of this Review
The ClueFinders 5th Grade Adventures: Secret of the Living Volcano
07-03-23 07:41 AM
Adventures on a deserted isle...or is it
Before I begin I would like to apologize to the estate of Sherwood Schwartz and George Wyle for what I am about to do *Clears throat*

Gameplay and Story: *to the tune of the Gilligan’s Island theme* Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, that started up from the Hawaiian mainland, Captain Clark is a mighty sailin’ man, we don’t know their skipper, 5 passengers set sail that day on a three plus hour tour, a three plus hour tour, the waves then started getting rough the tiny ship was tossed, if not for the courage of the Cluefinders the Labyrinth would be lost, the Labyrinth would be lost. The Ship’s aground on the shore abyss, on an uncharted isle, the captain (missing) as well as the crew (missing as well), The Brainiac, the surfer dude, The Tech wiz, The Fearless Leader, and Laptrap too, here on the Cluefinders isle!

I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but do a parody of the Gilligan’s Island theme, because I did it when I did a commentary for the game more than a year ago (and don’t at me about the Professor there was a professor in the last game, yeah technically Leslie would count but well I’ll explain in a sec) so after we sign in the game begins with Joni and Santiago unconscious on a deserted island and not only is there a volcano on the island ready to erupt, but Owen and Leslie are missing and as I described in the parody so is the captain and the crew, the good news is they are able to reach Owen and Leslie on the video phone and they find an artifact that fell off of a wall of artifacts (they were collecting them during the intro of the game) which we later learn are cryptiles, and we eventually find out that we actually need these to proceed in certain parts of the game, and well needless to say this island makes the Island from lost look like Gilligan’s Island….and boy are they going to wish they were on it (that reminds me how big of a movie star is Ginger anyway? Rocky & Bullwinkle's Know-It-All Quiz Game
07-01-23 06:57 AM
And now here's something we hope you really like
And now it's TdV season, where you will be seeing alot of me posting for the month of July, if I'm not too busy....which is why I had to pre-write most of mine (I just hope it doesn't give me grief like the MMPR the movie review did). So now we come to a rather obscure title that I’m sure no one else knows exist, in fact the steam version had to be added to this site

Gameplay and Story: Okay Bullwinkle is hosting a trivia game show with Rocky being one of the team members for Wassamatta U and the narrator of the series being the announcer, and there are three teams of three which is captained by an avatar of random people who weren’t in either the Rocky show or the Bullwinkle show. The three teams besides Wassamatta U (which consists of Rocky, Mr. Peabody and Sherman and Aesop) include Frostbite Falls (the team mates include Captain Pete “Wrong way” Peachfuzz as well as the three protagonists of Dudley Do-right also contrary to what you see on the jewel case cover, Horse does not play in the game) and of course Pottsylvania (I don’t think I need to get into who is on this team, it consists of the main antagonists of the series...minus Mr.Big) and you have to pick two from each team (plus an avatar that mostly consist of probably High School and College students), and they have two different animations for a certain line of dialogue, like when the narrator falls into old habits Rocky says “Bullwinkle the narrator thinks he’s still on our old show I think he may be having a memory problem” when he’s not selected to be on a team he comes from behind a curtain to say it

Graphics: Hand drawn animation I love every second of it (by the way this game came out long before the movie did like two years, yeah I would have loved to have seen an animated incarnation of Karen Sympathy show up here too) Round one has the contestants on at traditional game show set, round 2 will have the contestants fall through a trap door and into some... And now after this I will have only one more Nancy Drew game to review (but it will have to be tuned up first I hate being under 1000 words in these reviews but I have to make an effort to keep it above 500), of course that might change because if all goes well with the Nancy Drew games for Sleuth Sundays this year I might add more to the lineup especially since someone put all of them on the internet archive (however I don’t know how many of them I will play because there are some puzzles in the games after 11 that turn me off for being too difficult, I mean sure there are FAQ sheets out there that could be helpful but there’s only so many I can go through, hell I don’t think I even want to play Castle Malloy that end puzzle game where I have to mix chemicals looks like a disaster waiting to happen, and don’t get me started on getting through that warehouse in Phantom of Venice) okay I am almost two hundred words in let’s begin for this game

oh yeah this game may have some spoilers

Gameplay and Story: Based on the book of the same name (but obviously a different story here, I should know I actually read the book there’s no nasty custody battle in the game) Nancy is called down to an amusement park in New Jersey (with an accommodating hotel where her laptop gets a vacation...oh yeah something I’ll bring up in awhile) because a carousel horse has been stolen and then the carousel has been starting up by itself at night, and to make matters more complicated the park is being sued because the Roller Coaster stopped by itself and someone allegedly got hurt, so the park owner (who happens to be a friend of Nancy’s Father, man how many people does he know?) asks Nancy to help investigate because the police aren’t going to be helpful, and well let’s just say there’s more than one mystery at hand the other one involving Miles the Magnificent Memory Machine and he says it with Gusto) and Nancy’s list of suspects include the security... AND THIS TIME STAY DEAD!!!
No actually I couldn’t get the hang of the English version that Sega destroyed by making it too damn hard, not to mention practically deterring us from playing it on easy mode, it’s also another game I never owned in my holiday console gaming youth, so yeah I’m going to go into a bit of spoiler territory here

Gameplay and Story: So the gang is all here again, but this time they are joined by Doctor Zan. Where’s Adam you ask? Too busy to help (but he does show up in the game), and I don’t know where Max is because god forbid, we really could have used him when facing off against those flipping and life eating, ever so annoying Blaze clones (they have names now, Mona and Lisa). Apparently now there is a new plot involving bombs going off all over the city, of course most of this is all a ruse as we find out the chief of police has been abducted, and replaced with a robot clone, and yet somehow Mr.X keeps taking many steps ahead of the crew including his brain being put into a computer so he can keep running the city...and that’s why my review is titled AND THIS TIME STAY DEAD!

Graphics: They’re about the same, of course this was the only game in the franchise (before the fourth one was released) to get a Genesis exclusive release (yeah it looks like they were moving way away from the Master System by this point) however this is the first time we see the characters have actual dialogue in the game, we didn’t get that in previous entries that a bunch of cuts scenes in the intro and at the end of the game, they changed Blaze’s outfit (she wears a grey outfit now)

Soundtrack: I don’t know why but I feel like I should be on a dance floor rather than playing a game, though the boss music is relatively the same just remixed

Addictive: The first few times I came back to try again but this was just a tough game for me to master

You Don't Know Jack! Volume 4: The Ride

You Must Be This Tall to Ride Jack
So it is January 6th you are probably looking at this review right now thinking “Why aren’t you active in the review department in this Tour de Vizzed? I thought this was your secret weapon” well the last tour nearly wiped me out (not to mention I am starting to run out of review ideas despite the fact that several games have been added to the STEAM pile, but I’m also going to push for the BSC 3rd Grade game though I won’t have a lot to say), I’m starting to have problems trying to hammer out a thousand words per review and it’s January, I have to be at work three days a week, that also takes up time, and it will be cold, I would be spending a lot more time at home but due to circumstances beyond my control that also included me losing so many projects and screenshots from the last tour back in the Summer, I have to start those over (including a monthly screenshot upload just to make sure the function is still working) and since the screenshot uploads was workable for me again I had decided that I would be using this tour to focus on actions rather than Words (and so far it's working in my favour) even though I would love to win the Yellow Jersey, besides the Green Jersey is really hard to get (I wrote this review in advance before the tour started)

Gameplay and Story: So we kind of have a new format for this game and contrary to the title being the ride there isn’t really a ride to speak of except the elevator that would take us to the floor of the game and it’s kind of the format that we’re stuck with from here on out,(written before I played The Lost Gold, no I will not review that this tour), the episodes have a theme and all the questions for each episode will be relevant to the theme of the episode, from now on the questions are random (we don’t pick from a set of three per question) it’s more like a random picker wheel situation and so are the dollar amounts, we can pick them though but however it’s k... Double Dragon (Japan)

a Classic I don't care much for
sigh *drinks from imaginary flask* it has to come to this sadly, reviewing a game I didn't like playing

Gameplay and Story: It's the classic video game plot, girlfriend gets kidnapped, all because the leader of this gang wants to Lee brothers knowledge of Martial arts (seriously is that it?), so Billy and Jimmy do some fighting (but if you play together in some cases you have to fight over the girl and the winner gets the girl....in real life she would be horrified over this and wouldn't go with either sibling) brother defeats leader and he and the girfriend live happily ever after....until Double Dragon II the Revenge

Graphics: Yes everything is a slight improvement from the NES version but it's a coin-op game of course everything is going to be an improvement here, hell those big muscly dude that are taller than the person you are playing as actually look more human than like monsters (though did one of them have to look like the hulk?)

Soundtrack: it's just okay but I feel I heard part of it somewhere else before like for a CBC related thing that retro winnipeg did but it probably just sounds similar

Addictive: I played it as much as I could when I was ten but after the NES stopped working not so much, probably because a year later we got the Genesis (and no Double Dragon was not among the games we had with it) I didn't get to play the game again until I discovered emulators

Depth: There are 4 missions in this (yeah I guess the arcades want to make these as quickly as possible so others can play...at least that's what I think

Difficulty: I gotta tell you, the controls were the worst part of the game, I probably had more patience when we had the NES version in the house (yeah we had an NES briefly because I guess my aunt gave it up when the nest became empty) actually I don't remember who gave it to us or where my dad got it from. Why is it that I had more patience when playing video games than I d... Read the rest of this Review
Nancy Drew: The Final Scene
07-30-22 10:59 AM
Save the reporter! Save the Theater
I really need to get as many words done as possible for this one because I don't know how many words tomorrows review will be let alone what I will review

Gameplay and Story: Dear Bess, Remember Maya Nguyen from High School? no we don't Maya only exists in this game because this game is based on the Nancy Drew Files book of the same name, and she wasn't in the book, in the book Bess was the one who was abducted, Maya was the abduction victim here because Her Interactive wasn't ready to show us Bess and George. Anyway Maya goes into Brady's Armstrongs dressing room to conduct an interview when all of a sudden she let's out a scream and it's heard within Nancy's hearing, when Nancy arrives in the dressing room no one is in there, she then gets a call from the theater phone that says if the theater goes down Maya goes down with it (we later found out Maya wasn't the intended target Brady was) not only do we also deal with Brady we also deal with his agent Simone Mueller (Simon Mueller in the book) the long time caretaker of the Royal Palladium (yeah I forgot to mention something the premiere of Brady's latest movie Vanishing Destiny is held at this theater and this showing is the theaters last hurrah before it's being torn down in three days) and the leader of Had It who wants to keep the theater up to prove his grandmother worked on it in the 1920's (it's also her last work once the depression hit she couldn't afford to work as an artist again), and we find out from the police that Nicholas performed a similar stunt to what the kidnapper did in this theater in Nashville, though it turned out the victim was in on it, but this isn't something Maya would do. However despite what Nicolas did I found that he was the most reliable ally (Simone was the WORST! she cared more about getting attention for Brady than the seriousness of what was going on hell even she tries to get Nancy to want to do Hollywood...how has there not been a mystery game set in Hollywo... Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
07-29-22 03:25 PM
Doggos in the moonlight
Okay it's been a very long time since I did a review for a Nancy Drew Game but at least I've played the ones that are next on the list

Gameplay and Story: At the end of the previous Nancy Drew game (Secret of the Scarlet Hand) we get a letter from a friend of Nancy's that says she just moved into a new house but she's not sure she can stay because of spooky stuff that happens at night. So in the game we get more information, it turns out there are scary dogs that come out at night (not wolves, dogs) apparently these dogs are ghosts, ghosts of the dogs that were once owned by a gangster called Mickey Malone (and wouldn't you know it he used to own the house) we have three suspects (I'll explain under Depth and there will be character profiles added even if they don't have stats) there's not alot of ground to cover in this game though, but we have more space than most games at the time, I mean at the time Her Interactive was spacing out (not just by at this point two new releases a year) well we can't leave Moon Lake anyway because a tree fell down behind Nancy in the driveway so Nancy can't leave, that means she can't get fired from the investigation she can only get killed. Eventually we find out the real motive of the suspect, Mickey Malone buried gold on the property and we just haven't figured out where, for all we know it could be in the Speakeasy or in some kind of vault

Graphics: The Graphics are typical for what they were at the time of the game's release (that was before graphics got better) although at this point the graphics looked so good, but Emily Griffith looked like she got her eyes done

Soundtrack: Man I love the Nature Music in the background in the daytime, and they have one for Night, and there's some background music that would suit Mickey Malone just fine, of course there is a spooky theme when the ghost dogs come out (and during the culprit reveal)

Addictive: when I got the hang of the game it made me... Read the rest of this Review
MayaQuest: The Mystery Trail
07-28-22 01:02 PM
A good game done so cheaply
I think this might be the last of the MECC games for PC I'll do here but at least it's a decent one

Gameplay and Story: There are two modes in this game Explore mode and Adventure Mode, both stories are different however no matter what the mode you start off at MayaQuest Headquarters. In Explore mode you have to answer as many questions and make as much money as possible in 30 days before the rainy season starts (why not start it sooner? is the rainy season considered Hurricane season?) also depending on how you do you will either be approached by a newspaper or a magazine to tell your story but if you make more than ten grand you can get a book deal. Adventure Mode has you go the Maya Trail to collect four codes to help repair a satellite, why? because that thing, well I can only describe this as taking place in an alternate universe where Reagan got his star wars missile defense system, however since Communism fell this is good for preventing asteroids and meteors from hitting the earth but one of the satellites has been hit and only a portion of the codes have been recovered, we need the other four codes to get that satellite going again so the asteroid can be vaporized

Graphics: Most of the game made graphics are used in biking mode and the MayaQuest Hq and the game over screen (interesting CGI stuff) however well you'll see once I post a gameplay here, but man it almost looks like you're there in those ancient maya cities (hell I actually learned that Pakal's name was spelled wrong in Nancy Drew Secret of the Scarlet Hand, and what was said about him was kind of accurate, but it doesn't look like there was ever a whisperer of Silent Secrets, so no sign of any monolith in this game)

Soundtrack: Let me put it one way, I got claimed for the music on youtube, so you can hear the background music on youtube, though the tracks are kind of creepy.

Addictive: Oh I played this quite a bit when I first got it back in the... Read the rest of this Review
Feeding Frenzy 2

Classgame's getting tired
No seriously I'm getting tired and with four days to go I'm not sure how much I can take this, I'm losing time tomorrow because of a lunch and ice cream with a friend and on friday I'm losing time because of other stuff and a dentist appointment, also on saturday I think I'm having lunch with my aunts, but I have time right now so once again we find ourselves in the Popcap files where we play the games where we can install the games and after that don't need the disk anymore

Gameplay and Story: So it's about the same as the last game except we don't get to face a shark, we get to BECOME a shark, after we finish the rounds as Boris the Angelfish we find out there's a weird creature hanging around and it's making the other fish quite moody, so we go off on the tag basic, so we can get to the bottom of this and come fac to face with this strange creature (of course while playing as other fish) oddly enough we face him as Boris, yeah once we face the creature for the first time we have to go backwards in the fish chain

Graphics: They are about the same as the previous Feeding Frenzy game, it's just a shame they didn't make another one

Soundtrack: Like the previous game it has a gorgeous soundtrack

Addictive: Oh did I ever play this alot when I first got it, however the more time I got to have on the internet the less and less I wanted to play the Popcap games and wanted to spend more time online, facebook gaming did that back in the day but Zynga isn't the powerhouse it used to be (that reminds me how come Bejeweled didn't get a slot game, Zuma did)

Depth: This time we can play as 6 different fish, including a shark, we start off with Boris the Butterfly fish this time around, also we do something we didn't do in the previous game....COME OUT OF THE WATER!! we can leap up and eat the bugs and the flips we do can get us extra points, unless we belly flop into the water, we get the special bubbles again not only do t... Not much to say
okay I'll do the best I can here I am so tired, I worked really hard with this tour so many songs to rate so many words to type up

Gameplay and story: it's a point and click thing if you've played the eyewitness games, I can't say you've played them all because I sure haven't, I will one day though and I will film a playing of it (but maybe not some clips because god knows they could be copyrighted)

Graphics: They're fine for what they are but I like what 2.0 had to offer

Soundtrack: there's no background music in the main room if anything it's quiet

Addictive: well I just downloaded it, so I can't really call it addictive maybe one day I'll go through it in it's entirety and maybe I'll find something to like about this version

Depth: There isn't alot there's a quiz game but there's more fun had to explore especially in the video index, or if you explore the game on your own there's actually a documents area but all there is is a Che Guevera poster, and Mao's little red book, but I don't think version 2.0 had

Difficulty: It's not a difficult game it's mostly an educational resource

Post review follow up: I'm just going to come right out and say it, you would be better off playing the 2.0 version, they offer alot more there's an extra game in there that involves created a gem (or filling a gem) and you get to watch some CGI stuff and information, I really wanted to play that game again but it wouldn't work on any of my virtual machines, hell in the 2.0 there's background music, there's got to be some way I can play it, maybe if I can get it to work I can do an additional review of 2.0 in this thread then I can do some praising (maybe it didn't work because the original wasn't installed first but I can't do it today, I have massage therapy then Amazing Race Canada...yeah I know this review should be longer)

This concludes my review join me tomorrow when I review Feeding Frenzy 2... Read the rest of this Review
