NHL 2003 [gc] Review

NHL 2003 [gc]
Well, this game is one that I have had for years, and I have played a bunch, but have never thought of reviewing. I haven't written a review in months, so this one may not be the best, so just hang with me and let me tell you all about the game.

Compared to other EA sports game that came out in the 2002 2003 2004 section of this century, it is a pretty good game. But with all of these sports games, you really have to be sort of into the game that you are playing in order to find it any good. I am not the biggest hockey fan, but I still really enjoyed this game. The game is one that has both good graphics (for then) and has a fun way of showing off hockey.

Overall: 8.7
Pretty fun game to play overall. The game has good section to it, along with some not so good sections. One good part is the sound. The music playing is quite good (This depends on your taste in music) One bad part of it is the loading screens. The game takes forever to load. And by forever, I mean about 1-2 minutes for each screen. The game is incredibly slow loading, but it does make you want to get to the game more, which is kind of a plus for the game makers. The game features great game play too. Overall you get a wonderful experience playing this game and it is one the I would recommend to all gamers who like sports games.

Graphics: 8
I really can't complain too much about the graphics in this game. They ran very smoothly and were pretty detailed. One thing that you want in a hockey game is when you are shooting or getting into a fight, you want to be able to see what you are doing in great detail and that is what this game will give you. When you go into a motion to do a shoot or fire a punch, you will see clearly what you are doing and be able to deal it will great detail. This is one part that makes the game pretty good. But there is one bad part about the graphics, and that is the close ups. Now, it is not like you rarely get them, every few minutes the cameras will zoom in on one of their faces, and they really don't look too good. The pictures are grainy and their facial features are all messed up and distorted. It is really pretty freaky to look at, and I kind of want to just turn it off. I am not a huge fan of close ups in these old sports games, as the pictures that appear on your screen really aren't the best.

 Sound: 9
I really haven't played this game in the last week or two, so I don't have a full grasp on the sound track, but I do know that I like the music that was put into this game. Not only is their really great game play, but try adding good music to that, and you have a pretty good gaming experience. The in game sound track is still pretty good.  You get sounds of the game and stadium noises the most, and it is pretty cool to feel like you are really in there. I like it when they play special themes and the sound track when you score is pretty cool also. Overall, the sound track that you are given to play in this game, is one that is pretty good all around, without many weaknesses.

Addictiveness: 6
This game really isn't the most addicting out there. I mean, sure it is run to play some hockey on your game cube using an awesome controller and listening to pretty good music, but when it comes to playing the actual game, it really isn't that fun to play constantly. I normally just play it ever week or so, every once and a while I will just go on a random streak and play it a few times a week, but not too much. it is not a game that you will just sit down over and over and play.

Story: 3
For this, there really isn't too much of a story, but there is the mode where you go on a career. That is all that you will get for a story in this game, but it is still OK. I can't really call this a game with too much of a story, and that is where I will stop. There isn't exactly too much to say about the story, so I will just leave it at this and give it a 3.

Depth: 5
Not the biggest game out there, but there is some to it. You can play as many different teams in games with a wide range of difficulty and with the story mode, it really adds a whole lot too it. (But not that much) Many of the games that I review are very long and drawn out games with many this to do. (I think this is my first EA game other then racing, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't remember any) And these sports game don't exactly have way too much on it. It is mainly just for the sports, not big story happening.

Difficulty: 3
This game really wasn't all that hard. All it is is a hockey game on the game cube. The controls are pretty easy, and you really don't have to know too many buttons. There are only a few combinations for buttons and you can always just start on the easy mode and work your way up. You really don't have to work to hard to get the controls and game play down, which really makes a big difference.

Overall, this is a really great sports (hockey) game for the gamecube that if you have never played, I would suggest that you do.

I hope that you read it all, and i would love some feedback!
