Donkey Konga (Game only) Review by: tgags123 - 9.2/10

Donkey Konga
Hello people of Vizzed! I present to you a tgags123 review! This review will be Donkey Konga for the GameCube. I hope you like it and that it is helpful. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE WHOLE REVIEW! I do not want people using this as a cheap way to earn Tour de Vizzed points. Without further ado, let the review begin!

Donkey Konga is a fun twist on the classic music games. Instead of singing or dancing or playing the guitar to  the beat of the music, you are pounding bongos. Yes you heard me right - bongos. The notes will pass across the screen and you have to hit the bongo that corresponds with the color of the note. Yellow is the left, red is the right, and pink means that you have to hit both bongos simultaneously. There is also a jagged blue note. This note means that you have to clap. Since the clapping is detected my a noise sensor on the bongos, screaming or making any other kind of noise works too. It is a pretty fun and different game and I am glad that Nintendo made it. There are over thirty songs in the game, featuring songs such as All The Small Things by Blink 182, We Will Rock you by Queen, and also includes some kids songs such as Bingo. It is a great game for all ages to play.

Graphics (8):

Well there isn't really much to say about the graphics. There really isn't any graphics. The only visuals in the game are the notes moving across the screen and the little Donkey Kong in the corner that does what you do. The background looks pretty nice. It changes often and is decorated pretty well. So I went with a neutral rating of 8. There really isn't anything special or terrible about the graphics, and they really aren't a major part of the game.

Sound (10):

While the graphics play a very minor role in the game, they sound plays a very major role in the game. Actually, the sound pretty much IS the game. The whole game is about the music. The music that was chosen for this game was chosen appropriately. It has a variety of songs that are enjoyable for a bunch of different ages. So a kind could play this game with songs like Bingo and the Pokemon theme, but adults and teens could play the game to with songs like We Will Rock You and All the Small Things. Here is complete list of the songs: Diddy's Ditties, Bingo, Campfire Medley, Pokemon Theme, Kirby Right Back At Ya, We Will Rock You, Like Wow, Wild Thing, I Think I Love You, Louie Louie, Donkey Konga Theme, Mario Bros Theme, The Legend of Zelda Theme, DK Rap, The Loco Motion, Shining Star, All The Small Things, Rock This Town, You Can't Hurry Love, Right Here Right Now, Dancing in the Street, Rock Lobster, Stupid Cupid, The Impression That I Get, What I Like About You, Whip It, Busy Child, Para Los Rumberos, Sing Sing Sing With a Swing, Oye Como Va, On The Road Again, Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G Minor, and Turkish March. The sound is very crisp and clear in this game. The sound effects are cool too. It makes a bongo sound when you hit the bongos and a clapping sound when it senses noise. Each bongo makes a different sound in the game. You can also change the bongo sounds to sound like something else.

Addictiveness (9):

How likely am I to play this game again? Very likely. It is a ton of fun. This game is great for parties, get togethers, or just by yourself. I am sure that if you try this game out, you will not be able to play just once. It is more unique than the classic dance or guitar game. It has a certain aspect to it that makes you want to come back for more.

Story (N/A):

There is no story. Sorry! I honestly would like this game a lot less if they tried to put a lame story into it, so I am glad that they didn't.

Depth (7):

There is a pretty good amount of stuff that you are able to do in this game. You can play a Street Performance, which is a single track. You earn coins in Street Performance mode, which you can then spend in the shop on a bunch of things such as songs on higher levels. There is also a Challenge mode that you can play. In Challenge Mode, you go through every song in the game. If you drop below a certain amount of notes hit, you lose. A lot of people give up halfway through because there are a lot of songs. If you manage to make it to the end, then you have a lot of free time on your hands. There are also a few mini games that you can unlock. They are pretty lame, but are kind of cool because you can play them with the bongos.

Difficulty (8):

It is hard to give this game an accurate difficulty rating since the game features different difficulties. The monkey difficulty (what easy difficulty is called in this game) is easy. I can beat every song on monkey with a perfect score. The chimp difficulty (medium) is kind of difficult. I am able to beat most of the songs, but I struggle on some of the harder ones like The Impression That I Get or All The Small Things. Gorilla difficulty (Hard) is just insane. I don't know anyone that can beat it. The notes go by extremely fast. And there are a lot of them. Good luck if you decide to attempt it!

Some Hints That I Know Of:

Here are some hints that I figured out while playing the game. There are parts where it has a line instead of a single note and you are supposed to hit that note as many times as you can. If it has one of those and you are supposed to clap, just scream for the length of the line. It will get you the best score and your hands won't hurt after. Another hint is if you are playing a fast or a difficult song, you can hit both bongos no matter what note it is. If it is a yellow, hit both bongos. If it is a red, hit both bongos. If it is a pink, hit both bongos. For some reason, it will count it. The only not that this will not work on is the blue clapping ones.

Well that is my Donkey Konga review! I hope it wasn't too long or boring! This is the longest review I have ever written, so I am really excited! I think I am really improving as a reviewer! Tell me what you think, and please be honest. Negative and positive criticism are both greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for reading! Be sure to catch my nest review too!
