Camelot Warriors Review by: Totts - 9.3/10
Camelot warriorsThe Knights did it really not easy rescue princesses, defeat evil dragons and other monsters, unsubscribe Crusades organize and participate in tournaments and embark on a quest for magical artifacts, all part of her daily bread. And must always remember these heavy clothes from a suit of armor with it ... Yes, that was really not easy, because such a defense even weighs several pounds. It had the Knights of the Round Table particularly difficult to have, I imagine, but ran straight ahead of them a legendary reputation, the corresponding provisions of brave and heroic deeds had to be constantly maintained. These knights have to host the legendary King Arthur has been so constantly under pressure, their reputation will somehow be able to meet. It is therefore not surprising that the Knights of the Round Table also sometimes needed a little break from being her knight. But what did the knights of the Round Table in their spare time, even if they wanted to treat as a rest from the tedious Grail? Watching TV? Probably not, but that in the "Mirror of Wisdom" look ... Yes, but wait a minute! "The Mirror of Wisdom" is but a TV! At least in the old C-64 Game Camelot Warriors. In this game of Ariolasoft there are in fact in a dream again, and is well known in dreams anything is possible. But this dream of playing at the time of King Arthur and Camelot is, of course not a normal dream, because to come back from this dream back to normality can only have many dangers to be overcome. So you grab the legendary sword "Excalibur", takes on the heavy iron armor, and these challenges. In addition, you should still look out for the four issues of our time, who arrived in a mysterious way as in the world of Camelot. Only one will be able to restore the balance of nature, so that everything will return as it was before.
Camelot Warriors dusted with me in some respects from pros. First, there is the simple and in some places actually extremely poor detail, but very beautiful filigree drawn background graphics, which do capture the darkness of the medieval era skilfully. Furthermore, I like the precise and programmed entirely uncomplicated control of the character. The non-linear in game play also earns kudos because it is really nice and quite unique, if you spell as a knight in a frog will, with which you can then jump around in a pond (yes, I know in Ghosts Goblins could be enchanted even in a frog, but he died still in contact with water ...). And the theme music, the catchy tune has real quality. As I stare like a long time and with full intention to screen the title, just to get to enjoy this one tune. Just a pity that no music is heard in the game ... And here we are already at the few things that I do not like so pronounced negative points. The biggest point deduction in the assessment receives Camelot Warriors by me because of the extremely short playing time. There are only three levels, which would in itself not so bad yet, but the first of these three levels is played through in about 5-10 minutes if you are reasonably hires sent. Now you might think that the second level would be longer, but nil. The last level is just as out of order. If you're good, you can create the entire game in about a quarter of an hour. Even finding the four items from our time, the already above mentioned TV, the bulb, the Coke and "The Elixir of Life" and the phone is able to stretch the running time is not in the length, as these things more or less on the road. This is really a shame because the good technical implementation and the resulting atmosphere will make you want more on a lot! Well, maybe the game for its time was not quite so short, but compared to today's games it works just like a demo. It's really sad. The second negative point, but given the very short playing time is not so significant, is the critical in some places the transition from one screen to another. If you jump as a "wrong" position in a new screen and it immediately the temporal blessing, because it collides with such an owl or something similar, then all lives are gone, and the whole game is over. Because the program begins after the loss of a life always with the exact reproduction of the occurrence of the character in the last screen. This is actually a very big mistake in the game design. In an hour-long game that really would have been unforgivable, but when I press Camelot Warriors have turned a blind eye. What is still really bad, this is the lack of a final boss. While there is a dragon at the end of the second level, but these need not be fought. A quick hop across the mirrored ball of fire followed by a landing on a magic box and you're in Level 3 on the castle.
So, now it all really interesting was said, what can you say about this game, or rather games. Despite the extreme brevity and the one error in game design Camelot Warriors is a really good and strong title, which would have the potential to be much more. Unfortunately, there was never a sequel. It has seven points but in my opinion well deserved. I will remember at least always remember what a positive first impression of this game made on me, after I had it to me then borrowed from a friend and played for the first time. "Brevity is the soul of wit", which hits the nail on the head if you want to make a brief statement to Camelot Warriors.
