treos :

I don't like going for the ad hominem, but I can't believe your logic. A company offering digital downloads of their games, in exchange for money that goes to THEM, is not the equivalent of Vizzed, which is essentially an "underground" service for illegally accessing free games. That's like saying establishments (sponsored by Coke) selling Coke is comparable to one stealing their cola recipe and marketing it as their own.

TheFadedWarrior : Eloquently stated, man. Not only did I learn some things about this site's downfall, but I wholly agree with a lot of where you come from.

Let's face it--This site is dying. I poked my head back in to see if there were any of the users I had formerly had good times with, on this site.

I sometimes think that one possibility for Vizzed's fall from grace is the fact that, considering this site's purpose (to provide free retro games) and the demographic this website ultimately attracts/attracted, this forum board was not set up for great longevity. I am actually amazed at how long it's flourished. But for how many subforums this board contains, this community (disproportionately made up of young children) fails to really introduce posts of great interest or insight. I'm not saying that this is the case, by virtue of Vizzed being a forum about gaming, but there comes a point where the kids that populate a forum like this grow out of it. Now, this isn't to say that greater age = greater knowledge. However, online groups, think tanks, open forums comprised of majority adults are more likely to introduce more sagacious, smart dialogue. Pardon my cynicism, but this board almost rarely provided meaningful discussions that could stand the test of time, because of this phenomenon. "The game was rigged from the start".

Tour De Vizzed is/was rubbish, and did nothing but contribute to an unhealthy, toxic forum board. I look back on little me, being thrilled for this ostentatious excuse to produce crapshoot posts, in order to secure colorful banners. TDV tried to develop this board into a hearty, flourishing community motivated to construct the best contributions they can, but this method was to no avail. Did Vizzed really need this competition?

I would LOVE more context on the story with the dude that gave up this site to Nintendo. What a tragedy!

It used to be the same as Davideo's--Final Fantasy 7--However, I think Earthbound is more deserving of my "favorite game" title. Timeless dialogue and design, addictive battle system, vast and realistic world to explore, spunky soundtrack....It's also neat that players are STILL discovering things about the game. The body of knowledge of Earthbound today is vastly wider than that 10 years ago, it's crazy.

IgorBird122 : "...say like World War II, the reason why the Allies defeated the Axis Powers is because the people that enlisted in the military had to deal with a ton of discipline, just so they don't show any weakness towards the enemy. Now if you got the offended people today during World War II, the Axis Powers would of defeated the Allies with absolutely no effort at all..."

Igor, I can get behind much of your statement, I completely understand where you're coming from when it comes to social media sites that can be a little...funky. However, this part alarmed me. Not only is this a profoundly simplified perspective of the deadliest conflict in human history (a conflict which many would agree has tremendously impacted cultures and our thinking of mortality), but it also implies that....hundreds of thousands of men that marched to their deaths in war had a choice. Additionally, quality of life (QOL) was objectively worse in the early twentieth century than today, and the adolescents of the fighting WW2 generation harnessed more domestic, agricultural and laborious responsibility than adolescents today. Of COURSE if you rounded up all these "offended people", they would suffer defeat, because this margin of people you have labeled likely have NO military experience and less time spent in blue collar activity, compared to American GI's in the Second World War, meaning they would be, on average, physically inferior.

We can all agree that SJW's that have nothing better to do than complain about trivial social nonsense on the Internet are insufferable. However, when expressing such concerns, I would refrain from such brash comparisons to sensitive subjects (WW2, for instance), which are immaterial and irrelevant to this discussion.

Yeah, I saw the Jumanji reboot when it was in theaters. There were some amusing bits, but I found it to be a bit trite and a snoozefest, for the most part.

The other day I finished a film that should have been crossed off my list a LONG time ago,
12 Angry Men (1957). Seriously recommend this one to any fans of crime dramas or one-setting films. This picture does both masterfully, and has a profoundly memorable all-star cast (Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Martin Balsam, Jack Klugman)!

a search of "NES baseball game with robots" was sufficient enough to find the result. Is this game Base Wars?

EDIT: Also, not to chastise you, but the thread title was rather vague-- You could have introduced part of the question with the title.

I've been listening to more from the big band era. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington produced some great stuff in their heyday. Unfortunately, WW2 put an end to this lively and colorful music. For any lovers of jazz, check out these three musicians, they're forces to be reckoned with.

Heh, I've spoken OF many languages. Doesn't mean I know them.

For me, it's only English and partially Japanese. Still learning the latter, though. I'd love to at least be trilingual before I kick the bucket.

EX Palen : I returned mostly to play games that, fantastically, no one bothered to tell me about their removal, lord bless Nintendo's cease and desist order. And to be frank, I envisioned a lot more activity...

I will still peep my head in frequently.

Momo Aria : Shame on those members that tormented you! Can't say I'm not surprised. This isn't the most harmonious forum I have frequented, I've got to be honest. Likewise with you, I have had a scarce amount of faith in the moderators here, and have heard some atrocious stories of corruption that, I say again, are no overwhelming revelation to me. However, I have heard David is trying to restore this forum, and I can only tip my hat and say good luck to him. He's got one hell of an objective.

Am I enjoying my time? I still live a busy life (which some users on this forum could not comprehend, even back in the day), and have less time than I usually did. Most enjoyment here stems from PM'ing users that were active when I was. Feel free to PM me, always seeking new buddies!

This may seem very much cynical perspective that contradicts me returning, but I've spent too much time on this forum being apprehensive to share my criticisms and true thoughts, mostly because of the impeccably bizarre trust point system, which has thankfully been challenged by members that feel the need for change.

Hello Aura,

I recently returned as well and have been seeking those I communicated with frequently. I recall your activity on the board, and you may remember me. I certainly remember you being active here. Welcome back. Shoot me a PM and I can fill you in on what's happened since your departure, and perhaps we can get a quaint discussion going.

Zlinqx : I have fond memories of making pixel art on there! What became of the server?

IgorBird122 : Igor, i have been examining old threads that concern people's criticisms of Vizzed. A lot of quarrel over the trust point system, and i happen to agree with the critique of that system. I will sound blunt here, but this board does feel kinda dead, a shell of its former glory. Perhaps TDV will incite activity, but I've been skeptical of how beneficial that event really is/was to the forums.

A user that i kept frequent contact with years ago stated that if I left all the friends i made on here would shun me. Now none of them are active! Yippee!

This has been on my mind for some time, so I hope some movie fans here can join in. By the thread title, I'm specifically referring to films that contain ideas, speech, imagery, etc. that reflect and were influenced by popular thought and culture, especially with the caveat that they wouldn't age well as time passed. Most instances are likely related to sexism or racism, but not all fall under this generalization, like Revenge of the Nerds  (1984), which concerns a rather passe portrayal of life in fraternities. Here are some other examples I've had in mind:

- On the Waterfront (1954): While this movie has overall aged extraordinarily well, and remains one of the greatest pictures of its time, there is one scene in particular that likely wouldn't sit well with modern audiences. I haven't seen it for years, but I remember a scene where Terry forces a kiss upon a girl, which had a bit of a rapey vibe. Definitely would not be put in a film today, for obvious reasons.

- The Jazz Singer (1927), and many other flicks featuring blackface: This age-old gag has been the spawn of endless discussion, and I don't condone racist and bigoted depictions of races on screen. However, many movies featuring this gag, Jazz Singer notably, were very much products of their time. Though their portrayals of blacks were controversial even at the time, audiences still felt some sort of comfort watching it, which is the contrary of today.

- Around the World in 80 Days (1956) This movie has been controversial since its release, but usually not for what I'm pointing out here--most criticisms revolve around the fact that it plays out more like a travelogue than an action-adventure/comedy, but that's besides the point. The movie is riddled with stereotypes of each ethnic group that the film concerns. This is likely why a more modern remake was released in 2004, which I thought was a great idea because it introduces this epic of a story to younger audiences, without the inherently dated representation of foreigners. This adaptation was a flop, but I digress.

What examples can you guys conjure up? I find it interesting to reflect on some of these movies and look back on their cultural significance and whether or not they'd be suitable for modern audiences.
