Who still watches it? Obviously I do, lol. I've loved it since forever - the older episodes are classics but I still like the newer ones. Oh, and of course you can't go wrong with the Treehouse of Horror.

So, how about you? Any particular episode you like?

I used to like the show a lot and have watched it for most of my life. I like the humor a lot but I feel like later seasons have had the quality drop significantly, for one I dislike the art style as in it not being hand drawn anymore since I feel like it doesn't fit it with a lot of the gags and secondly a lot of jokes now feel forced and simply aren't near as funny as those of the older episodes, relying more on cultural references that will quickly become outdated than actual jokes. I like the older episodes because those you can rewatch and still enjoy today, a lot of the humor is timeless and I feel like it is a good mix of social commentary while at the same time having lots of silly moments.

Just going by the older episodes I'd say it's one of the best shows in my opinion on TV, not to mention probably the single most influental TV show in the world. Nowadays while I may still watch it if I see it's on when flipping channels and it is somewhat entertaining, I feel like it has lost a lot of what made it so good in the first place.

Zlinqx : I agree - the newer ones aren't as funny, but with that being said I still watch the new episodes weekly. I believe they've had a change in writers (which would explain a lot). 

I agree with you on the cartoon-style of it. I wasn't sure with what had happened but I prefer it hand-drawn as well. 

I stopped watching it normally a few years back but ill still watch it every now and then on Sundays. I used to watch it every single day when they used to show at like 6PM on Fox before TMZ and other shows started taking that spot. I loved it and I still like watching it now and then.

I wouldn't say its one of my all time favorites since I mostly started watching it later on in its career, like season 12 maybe, but still very influential.

zanderlex : I used to watch it a lot more as well (growing up, it used to be on numerous channels as opposed to now it seems) it's always going to be one of those shows I think that I can just continuously watch. I've watched it since I was like 8 years old or so I think.

I love the Simpsons especially the older episodes. I've tried to watch one of the newest episodes a few months ago and it didn't really appeal to me as much as the older episodes. I guess that the newest episodes are supposed to attract the new younger generation. I love the Simpsons because of the humor that it gives while at the same time teaches us life lessons at the same time. The best part are some of the quotes you encounter in some of the episodes.

"You don't win friends with salad!" - Bart, Homer, and Marge doing a congo line while singing that phrase
"But my mom still thinks I am cool" - Milhouse
"4:30 in the morning" "There's a 4:30 in the morning now?" - Bart getting punished by Skinner

ghostfishy : I agree - although i like the newer episodes, they don't really have as many memorable quotes. I say "boo-urns" on a daily basis. Or "ahoy-hoy?". There's just too many to name, that you don't really get the same comparison with the newer episodes. I'm hoping they really adjust their writing skills towards that.

I don't watch The Simpsons, but I think I recall watching a clip of a parody of "Do Re Mi", and now I don't know where to find it.  It went something like this:

"Dough, the stuff that buys me beer,
Ray, the guy who sells me beer,
Me, the guy who drinks the beer,
Fa, the distance to my beer!
So, I'll have another beer!

Tea, no thanks I prefer beer!

plasticinsanity : I do know that I never want it to be cancelled, it's probably the most famous show in American history and I really do want to see how long it can go on for.

The season will finish off with 596 episodes, and with the show confirmed for another season, it's going to hit 600 and finish season 28 with 618 episodes.

zanderlex : I have to agree. Every year I look forward to the new Treehouse of Horror episodes - lately it's been hit and miss, but then I go back and watch it (and seem to enjoy it more the 2nd or 3rd time 'round). I also think as a long-running show, it's got a lot of expectations put upon it.

plasticinsanity : I haven't actually watched the Halloween episodes in a long time, I probably only saw one of those episodes in the past 12 or so seasons, I never seem to watch the show when it's that time of year so I never get a chance to see them.

zanderlex : They're available online actually. I did a marathon in October and watched all of them. I still love Season 5 (with the Dracula one).

plasticinsanity : Eh, I don't usually have the time to watch things online anymore, heck, I had to mass watch a months worth of videos by my favorite YouTuber in one day since I had to refrain from watching him for that long.

zanderlex : I hear you on that one. That's one of the bonuses about them being online - able to watch whenever.

I used to LOVE the Simpsons back when it was in it's Heyday in the 90's. Heck, I even used to watch the the Simpsons shorts on the Tracey Ullman show before Simpsons was even it's own show.

Since about the early 2000's I lost track of it though. Just kinda lost it's magic. Probably been on way too long IMHO.

It was great though for about 10 years, and those episodes will be cherished for a long time.

Jordanv78 : Lost it's magic? That's crazy talk lol jk.  I'll agree though that the... writing style has certainly changed. 

I got attached to the show back when most shows were happy families and learning life lessons where everything seemed to work out okay. I couldn't relate to that as a kid lol, so I really grew fond of the Simpsons.

plasticinsanity : I understand what you mean. In the shows defense in conjunction to what I was saying before, the show has been on for almost 30 years now. (Which is totally unprecedented for ANY type of fictional show, let alone a cartoon show) but any show that's been on that long would tend to get stale.

I felt like it got stale maybe 10-15 years into it's run, but maybe that was just because shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons took that model and went even further with it.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for those seasons in the 90's though and at least I can always go back to them for a good laugh.

I agree, it definitely has competition with Family Guy and South Park. South Park's last season was wonderful.
