My first anime was probably a very obvious one.  It was Dragon Ball Z.  It was a good anime back then, and I still think It's good to this day.  If for any reason you haven't checked it out, you should immediately.  There is a newer version called Dragon Ball Z Kai, that gets rid of many of the things that held the old show back, like taking ten episodes to charge up an attack.  So check this one out if you haven't already.  The newer and the older are both fantastic.

*sigh* I hate to admit it, but the first anime I've seen is.....Sailor Moon. I watched it out of no where. I might've seen a little bit of Dragon Ball Z a little earlier, but it didn't grab my interest until years later.

I was pretty young when I first saw anime. I remember being in pre-K and watching Pokemon, but there was also; Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, Dragon Ball/ Z, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, Beyblade, just to name off the top of my head. I was too young to remember what it was first but likely one of these.

Hmm... When I was growing up, one of our TV channels was starting to exhibit a variety of animes and other japanese stuff like Tokusatsus (aka Power Rangers kind of series), so I was lucky to have a pretty decent variety of things to watch. The ones I have more clear memories of watching as a little kid are Yu Yu Hakusho and Saint Seiya. Still, I watched a bunch of other things at the time as well... Shurato, Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest, Sailor Moon, Rayearth, Speed Racer, Street Fighter II (Yeah, an anime of it, pretty awesome too ).

I also watched Pokemon, Digimon and DBZ like everyone, plus a bunch of other good classics like Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X), but those only came a few years later.

Man, those were all great, I feel nostalgic now.

The first anime I ever watched was Dragon Ball Z. According to my parents, I've been watching it since I was 2 years old. In fact, since I watched it so much, I actually got my Dad into watching it with me. I remember when I was 6 or 7 years old, watching the "new" episodes of Dragon Ball Z on Toonami. Ahh, good times.

However, at that time, I didn't know what an "anime" was. Even when I got older and started watching Naruto, I didn't really know what it meant. Then I watched a short, wacky anime called Fooly Cooly on Adult Swim (the network that replaced Toonami). The difference in animation style was very noticeable, and for some reason I was really drawn to it. It was hilarious, and I had a lot of fun watching the SIX (yes, only six) episodes of the series. At first, I didn't believe that there were only six episodes - so I looked it up. And sure enough, there were only six, and from then on I knew what anime actually was.

So, in short, the first anime I technically watched was Dragon Ball Z, but it was Fooly Cooly that really got me into watching anime regularly (rather than just watching Dragon Ball Z or Naruto).

My first Anime was Sonic X (dubbed)

I was a huge sonic fan about a year back and I decided to check it out, actually when I did, I didn't even know it was an anime, or what "dubbed" even meant.

I say, it was a good anime I guess, but everything EP 51+ was just really good.

I then halfway through the third season, learned that a lot was changed in the English translation, and I wanted to see the cut scenes of the show. When I swapped from EN to JP, I could INSTANTLY tell the difference, it felt, more serious, it felt...darker.

Because youtube was no help, and I didn't know about torrents at the time I had to watch half of the 3rd season dubbed, but was very fortunate to  see the finale Subbed.

I bawled my eyes out, and I mean I bawled.  (I never cry over stuff btw)

I've never had a show emotionally effect me before so I though it was quite unnatural, because I've only seen my mom tear a little watching some christian films growing up.

But after seeing that pretty much all the girls and half the guys online cried seeing it, I felt a little more reassured.

After having this thing called "anime affect me so deeply, I wanted more of it, I wanted to get away from American based media and more of...
this.

If the doesn't count as my first since it was dubbed 80% of the way, and it was based off a major gaming series. It would be Sword art online.

Like at least half the fanbase, I really liked the first 14 Episodes, and they should have ended it after that. Anything after that is just, painful... very painful (though the opening and ending theme are debatably better in the second half)

I did like the elements of how it wasn't focused on magic, and it kinda reminded me of the Legend of Zelda that I played a lot back then.

The first anime that I know I've watched is the original Pokémon. That was back when I didn't know what anime is, and my sister had gotten me to watch it. Some time after, the original Yu-Gi-Oh! (Didn't know it was anime either, and my sister also introduced me to it). The first anime's that I've watched while actually knowing what anime is, was Bleach, Naruto, and Dragon Ball Z. To this day, I still continue to watch Bleach, Naruto, and Dragon Ball Z. I've stopped watching Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! in general, and they feel less appealing as time goes on.

sop281 : I honestly don't remember my first, I remember the first 2 but not which one was first

I recall as a child watching Sailor Moon as a kid, I enjoyed the strange animation and the fact it was a female super hero (my first one I remember seeing) and I loved it, looking back on the dub however woooooooooow, man was the dub pretty bad, not horrible like other stuff many otoku mock and ridicule but still pretty bad,

The Other like many was Pokémon. I recall seeing the first episode was the one where Ash was in the fighting Pokémon tournament and I was hooked, I then was lucky to watch the series in its run when it started over so I didn't have to figure out what was going on, my mom would record the episodes on one VHS so I pretty much had multiple VHS recordings of episodes I would rewatch and I loved it as a kid.

I also recall watching Hamtaro as a kid but I think that was afterwards, but still something I feel I should mention none the less...

I think my firsts were Digimon and Monster Ranchers episodes I randomly caught before school. I could never figure out exactly when they would be on though. I know I watched the original Pokémon too but the one that really caught me as better then all other American cartoons that I had seen was Cardcaptors which I watched faithfully every Saturday. I didn't know that it was anime until years later though sadly.

My first anime wasn't a TV show it was a movie. Surprisingly enough it was from my grandmother. It was Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. The whole move blew my mind and has stayed in my heart for many years. Especially the chant to use the Royal Scepter.

Shizama Pajama Pajama Shizama
Imeri kazam imeri kazam
Punja Punja Shazama
PAJAMA!

I always enjoyed it with its wide variety of characters. The upright and moral professor, the Playful king, the young beautiful princess, the mischievous crook, Icarus the flying squirrel and the Oomps.

I know it's an odd one, and honestly probably not the first I watched, but the earliest anime I can remember watching is Escaflowne. It came on one of the channels that I used to watch my Saturday morning cartoons on and I was hooked. I was pretty young then and probably didn't understand much of it, but I loved it. After that, I started looking for other similar shows and eventually found my way into the anime fandom, where I have remained.

Dang! Talk about taking me back in time. The earliest animes I can remember ever seeing were : Space Battleship Yamato, Great Mazinger, and Panda and the Magic Serpent ( alternate titles: It is also known variously as  The Tale of the White Serpent, Legend of the White Snake, The Great White Snake and The White Snake Enchantress ). The last one is an old anime film that came out in 1958 but was later released under the name of Panda and the Magic Serpent in America in 1961. After that I got hit with many more and I was hooked and started looking for as many as I could find as fast as I could look.
