Updated Thread Layout
You'll notice that on the thread pages, posts have 3 columns now instead of 2. Before, all of the user's info was in the very left column while their post was in the right. I've added a 3rd column to split that user data up so that the entire row isn't so big vertically. The result: all of the posts on a page take up a lot less space.

User pictures are also a max of 160 pixels wide now (they were 200 before) since the box their in is now 160 wide.

There's also space in between each posts so that they're more organized looking and easier to look through. There's a lot of benefits to this, one of the big ones being that users will be able to distinguish posts apart better (there's been a lot of people who have clicked the 'Link' and 'Reply to Post' link to the wrong post).

The left is before, the right is after. So if you could only fit an average of 2 posts on the screen at at time, you should not be able to fit 3 or more.


Post Linking
If you click the 'Reply to Post' link on a specific post, your post will become linked to the post you're responding to. A post that is a response to another post will have a link to the post it's a response to right above it. A post that has responses will have links to each post that is a response to that post below it.

This will hopefully organize the flow of conversation in a thread a little better. This also opens the door for future enhancements that may utilize this.

I missed the 2 columns in posts. It is very confusing for me now. No offense, but I get confused with my stuff in the right column too now.

Singelli : Really long posts may take up a little more space but most posts will benefit from this.

Stevie 764 : It'll just take some adjusting. Just think of the stuff to the left of posts as the more important stuff and the stuff to the right less important stuff.

Is it at all possible to link to more than one post? If not, do you plan to work on that?

Like your last post could have been linked to two other posts, and we could carry on the conversation with more fluidity. Complex to work out, but that'd be something.

Probably because the image on the right was a little bigger than 160 pixels. I had to change the size, and I recently did so. Is it better now?

legacyme3 : I'm not really sure how I'd give the user the option to do that thought without making it too confusing. Basically when you click the 'Reply to Post' link, the post will be linked to that post. You can't really go and click more than 1 link at a time since each link will take you to a reply page. I suppose 1 way to go about it would be to have check boxes where a user could check all of the posts they want to respond to but that would only limit the user to responding to multiple posts if they appear on the same page.

Using settings you'd be able to have more posts on the page, and therefor more to reply to

I think one of the reasons that a lot of people would rather view threads from the new reply page is because the posts take up less space on the new reply page. With this update, posts now take up less space (but still take up more than the posts on the new reply page do).

The reason I view posts from the newreply.php page is because a majority of the layouts on site hurt my eyes, and it's more convenient to click reply, and view the post in question.

Gee, Seems pretty messy for me. I liked how it looked before.

I guess I'll have to get used to it, however, it wouldn't be a bad idea if you added an option to change the thread layout to how it looked before. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't like this new style.

P.S: The post linking idea seems nice!

Eddy88 : You just gotta get use to it. If it was this way first and I changed it to the other way, you'd complain as well.

This actually isn't much of a bother to me. It's like Youtube and their layout changes, but these in the Vizzed don't actually effect me. Kind of interesting to see you do this. Hopefully, it is for the best.

It balance's the board out nicely I think Vizzed should keep it.

FrankThePunisherCastle : It was my idea actually, to help make things look more organized and for the posts to take up less space. Another reason why I did it is for a future feature.

I hate it.

Sure, this has brought a couple of good things, but it also completely destroys others.

For example, now, with the new userpic width requirement, it's going to be even more difficult to find a picture that fits, and seriously, 160 is a pretty bad width for anything when trying to find a height that compliments it, and the only people that will ever have a good time with this are the ones who used basically bar pics before (Long in height, short in width, kinda like your userpic of Cloud that may or may not be the one that has your face edited on).

Other than that, it also completely destroys and stabs good layouts a million times, making them all but deleted. for example, just find a post of mine within the past month that has my Sleeping Cat GIF in it, and you can clearly see that it's absolutely destroyed, and the only way to repair it from how mercilessly you killed it, is to just simply stop using it. And seriously, comparing it to some other layouts on the board, specifically those made from the custom layout maker that people throw three horrendous pictures into to create some ungodly mess (I'll find an example within the matter of minutes if you seriously want me to find one), is it seriously worth the trade? Even if only because I had the UserBar background covered too?

And if this was all in an attempt to just simplify how REPLY TO POST and LINK work (Which you should be able to figure out pretty easily unless your IQ is equivalent to that of an avocado), we could have gotten that done perfectly fine by separating the posts from each other without throwing the bars into three columns. What an example? look at Board2, another acmlm based forum (Even though it is dead a lot of the time). They have the same separation style, but just not with the whole Replied Post link there.

However, just so I don't look like I'm trying to blatantly attack you with my opinions or something, I will say that I do like how it was made a lot simpler to find the post that someone replied to you/Person A with. That really is the only thing that I truly think you did right with this update, as sad as it is to admit it.

With that all said and done, I guess I gotta try and find my cat a new sleeping place now, Nya~.
