Yay, my Canucks have won a game! Lol. I was pretty worried earlier in the year. Happily, I think they're finding they're stride. Hopefully. Anyway, I'm kinda annoyed that they're sticking with Luongo, he's a siv...

mrfe : I actually thought that you should have kept Luongo. But now, you are spending a lot of money on two supposed number one goalies. But do you know who isn't going to have a goalie situation next year? The Islanders. They traded away a second round pick in iether 2014 or 2015 for Timmy Thomas. Now, his contract might be up after this year, but I heard that this trade was about the salary cap. Boston is over, and the Islanders are under the minimum.

Well, the Wings offense exploded again. Hope we can start to see some consistency.

And also, the Flyers extended Kimmo Timonen's contract. It's a one year extension, worth about $6 million.

So the Penguins are doing well now, though I've been unlucky enough to be at work for half the games.

What do you all think of Boston trading away Tim Thomas to the Islanders?

I think it was a good move for Boston. Offload a guy who may never play again for a pretty good draft pick. It is conditional (on him playing for the Islanders I'm assuming) but it does get rid of a big cap hit for Boston. Not too bad really.

The trade seems like a waste of a 2nd round pick for the Islanders in my opinion. The Islanders have made many poor decisions in recent years, which I believe is why they have been hanging at the bottom half of their conference for the past several years.

I don't think Thomas will play a game for the Islanders. I think he will test the NHL free agency pool when his contract ends, and if he doesnt get an offer from a team he want to join, he will either go play in Europe, or retire. He seems to have an "Im better than you" attitude about him.

bobq : the 2nd round pick only applies if Thomas plays.... otherwise it is given back to the Islanders. They don't have to pay Thomas if he doesn't play but they still get his cap hit to bring them to the salary floor. And his contract is up like you said so they don't have to worry about the cap hit being a problem going forward.

And Boston wins because they get 5 million in cap space on an already strong team.

Watching the MTL-PHL game right now and Montreal is up 1-0. I know I'm petty but I love to watch Philly lose. I really hope they miss the playoffs or have to face the top 1 or 2 team and then get eliminated early.

Watching Philly lose really is a fun activity.

Tim Thomas just kinda pisses me off because of his "I'm better than you" attitude that he puts on. It almost makes me hope the Islanders keep him and then Nabokov can go to a team I don't despise. But I doubt it will happen.

Rick Depietro got placed on waivers today. I found that pretty interesting. From the comments I've read from people it's mostly to give him time to play in the AHL to get back into game shape and hopefully not get injured again

Also, Malkin left the Pittsburgh game tonight with an injury. Not sure what happened to him but hopefully it's not too serious.

Taylor Hall got suspended for the hit on Clutterbuck. It didn't actually look intentional to me but the knees ended up connecting and it was Hall's fault really.

Seems like there have been quite a few injuries this year. Probably not more than usual but in a shortened season it seems much more impactful.

I disagree with the injury comment.

A number of nhl players did not play hockey while the league was locked out. Also, there was very little time for preseason hockey. I believe that this is the reason why the injury bug has hit so much more frequently. Players are not in as good of shape as they would have been if it were a normal season.

O.K. I am going to be honest: I do not pay much attention to hockey. If I could skate backwards, I would play. I recently revisited my childhood by watching D2 and D3, the might ducks. I guess you could call me a ducks fan because of that movie. So... can somebody fill me on them, so I can start paying attention to hockey again like I used to a few years ago? Please and thank you?

I really have enjoyed the way my Blackhawks have been playing to start the season. They have proven that they are the team to beat so far. Hopefully they can keep this momentum up and make a deep run in the playoffs.

yeah, the blackhawks have been playing really well so far. Not sure what came together for them this year that is different from last year but they are playing really well so far.

thing1 : The ducks are doing really well. They are 2nd in the Western Conference right now mostly on the back of their 30 year old rookie goaltender Viktor Fasth. He has won 8 games and lost 1 in the shootout which is a pretty impressive record for any goalie. Not sure what else you want to know

geeogree : Malkin was taken off the ice since he skated into the boards so hard that he apparently caused some short-term memory loss. They checked him out for a concussion but he was fine, as seen in tonight's win against Tampa Bay.

I saw this event and my first thought was, "In Soviet Russia, boards hit you!"

yeah, glad to see both Malkin and Crosby scoring goals tonight. I was worried Pittsburgh was going to have another big injury hit the team. They would have managed but with both of them healthy they stand a good chance at a cup run this year.

So I was looking at a clip from fights so far this year... too funny. The video was uploaded a couple of weeks ago... but a few of the clips looked questionable... could somebody tell me about the fights... I am waiting for my cable provider to come out here in a few days to give me cable.

Ryan Getzlaf just resigned in Anaheim and is going to get 8.25 million per year for 8 years.

I personally can't believe anyone thinks he is worth that much money. I would pay 6-7 million maybe but not 8.25.

geeogree: Yeah, that's a lot of money. Is it even all the way through though? Because since the cap is getting lowered, it puts the Ducks in a bad position for next year.

But the Ducks are doing really well this year. They won their last 10 home games. Fasth has been playing phenomenal.

And finally Chicago lost a game. Now people can finally shut up about them. I despise all Chicago sports, so it really bothered me. Not even just that they were winning, but just that they are getting talked about so much.

I don't know if it's even but the cap hit is 8.25 million per year. It doesn't really matter the exact $ amount they are paying him next year.

I understand wanting to keep a franchise type player but I wonder if they are going to handcuff themselves for lower end players.

Dude, that Getzlaf deal is seriously screwed up and not fair to the team at all... and I say this as an avid hater of the Ducks. No player should take up the bulk of a team's budget like that... especially when they are not nearly worth that much money.
