I still watch my local news Just to see what is going on in my area,   I will rarely watch full news coverage   If it  stories like "sandy"
or the earth quake that happen in Japan  on 3/11/11. I don't watch or listen or read the news.as a whole, a half- hour is news is all
I can stand and my local news is  just that 30 minutes..

i would add that i actualy prefer reading the news, they fill tv reports with crap that you need to wait out before getting to the main story, where they then draw that out. Go online, you can see what actualy interests you and skim to the main points of said story. Job done.

I enjoy watching the news or even reading about it. It's good to keep up with current events so you're not completely in the dark on what's going on around you locally or even nationally.

jlh : Well I think it would be a tad hypocritical of me being in the media to not like or watch the news on a daily basis. There are certain things however about the news and being in media that do get under my skin sometimes. Such as how some networks use deliberate sensationalistic tactics to generate ratings rather than concentrating and presenting the facts in an unbiased fashion. This is particularly true when it comes to politics and how politics is covered on television. I also think that tabloid media gives those of us who actually do research and try to do right by readers a bad name.

There are however some very informative news programs on television and some publications that are worth watching and reading for an unbiased view of current events. I just wish that it was more of a universal standard in media overall. I think at the minimum people would be more informed rather than sometimes basing their opinion on a network or journalist’ own opinion. Unfortunately much like everything else in this world it seems that all you really need to do is follow the money.

Perhaps if a network’s primary motivation wasn’t ratings and therefore money that maybe the public would get a better unbiased view of current events especially in regard to politics. Just one writer’s opinion.

jlh : Pretty much… One of the main reasons I watch the news as often as I do has nothing to do with my being involved with media. I live in the south and have gotten use to watching the weather reports even when there isn’t anything really going on because it seems like no matter what time of year it is, the weather bounces rather than being consistent except in the summer months. So often you’ll get a few days of moderately cool to maybe a little cold weather and then it’ll feel like summer again. For someone from the northeast I never really liked that much especially since it’s hard to get in a Christmas like mood when it can be 80 and up outside.

We did have one year not too long ago where it got legitimately cold for about a month or two fairly consistently. It was the closest thing to an actual cool season that I’ve seen down here. If I could afford it I would gladly move back up north. Storms like they just had up there are truly rare, the main thing they really worry about is snow and on occasional heat wave. It’s certainly better then dealing with Hurricanes most of the year.

I watch the news a lot. I think it's important to keep up with what's going on in the world because there's nothing that happens anywhere that doesn't somehow affect us today. The world has become so global.

That being said, there's certain news channels I will watch and certain channels I will not watch. Fox news and CNN are so biased, each in their own way, and the slant is painfully obvious. I don't like my news channel telling me how I should feel about a news item; I want them to report the facts and let me draw my own conclusions.

I prefer to readin a newspaper than watching the news. The paper has perhaps an article that is more indepth than some 2 minute news short. But each day I try to follow the news at the web also.

Most of the time, I don't bother to watch news reports because of how stupid they are. Mayor Bloomberg bans large sugary drinks. Osama Bin Laden shooter speaks out. The stuff they talk about isn't relelvant, and the kids in my grade and I still have years before we're boring enough to talk about politics

I cant actively sit down and watch the news.

I find it extremely boring personally.

It is a great way to fill everyone in fast, I get that.

But it just isn't my cup of tea.

The news it's self is a boring program, especially if you already seen it or just heard about it from some where else. I only tend to watch the sport news, generally on sky sports, since I'm very into my football (soccer) and cycling. More importantly it is a lot less depressing. Probably the worst it can get in sports news is when your club losses, or a player get's injured. Yes it may make you feel down for a while, but hearing about peoples fatalities and tragic incidents just make you feel sorry for them, and worse for you it can sometimes put you off what you are doing and can make you sad. That's why I stick to sports.

I watch the news sometimes. I think it's a good way to get updated on what's going on. But most of the time I listen to the radio or get it off the internet, since I don't have cable television. To be honest, most of the news stations to me are garbage.

I watch it all the time but especially this past week with all that has been happening. It is important. These boston bombings have made me pay a lot more attention to it.

I watch the news every morning. The only thing I don't like is its mostly bad stuff that happens. You don't turn the news on and hear all the wonderful stuff that happens in this world, also a lot of it is lies or cover ups. U just have to know how to shift through there bulcrap.
