The PS3 is a better system. That's all there is to it really. The wii wasn't designed for serious games. It is a family casual oriented system that wanted to be affordable, simple, and appropriate for all ages. I have nothing against Nintendo but the Wii wasn't a step in the right direction to be honest, it was just kind of a gimmick. And the Wii as a system really wasn't much better than the game cube, whereas the PS3 and 360 were much more powerful than their predecessors. However, the Wii U is probably the most powerful system that will be on the market until the PS4 and Xbox 720 (random name) because it has more power and better graphics than the ps3 and the 360.

Well, it really varies depending on what the gamer likes and cares about in their game systems.
For these examples, I will assume the gamer in question owns a gaming PC and a 360, and is only interested in exclusives for the Wii & PS3. I will also assume they own an HDTV and will be able to take advantage of the PS3's HD & Bluray.

Tech specs:
PS3 - Blue Ray, 320 GB HDD, Rechargeable controllers out of the box, both WiFi and Ethernet, 1080p
Wii - Nintendo exclusive disk format, 0.5 GB flash memory, WiFi only, 480p

PS3 Wins. Not even close.

Games:
PS3 - Everything Sony makes themselves. (Uncharted, Little Big Planet, etc)
Wii - Everything Nintendo makes themselves. (Mario, Zelda, etc.)

Wii Wins. Mario vs Sackboy? Seriously?

Controller:
PS3: That same darned dualshock again?!
Wii: What the heck is a nun-chuck?

Tie. PS3 is old for the sake of old, Wii does something new just to be new. They're both bad here.

I would disagree with whoever said not to buy a Wii because the Wii U is so close. The Wii U is still over a year away, and the Wii is so cheap the money you'd save over that amount of time won't be worth it.

The Wii has literally 3 good games that i can think of at the top of my head.
No More Heroes *if they have a series of that on the wii* SSBB *everyones favorite game D* and Mario *self explanatory*
Other than that the Wii is useless.
Ps3 has Blueray movies, LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2, PS3  Move *for those who are used to wii and want movement* and a better and wider selection of games. 
And for a plus a waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy better friend system and the people on psn are nice......sometimes......if you play kid friendly games...ok im lying on that part of people being nice.
But im telling the truth about everything else.

it really depends,the wii is great if you want to mario zelda ect,  but if you want to play CoD on the other hand then you want the ps3.it all depends on your gaming likes and dislikes.i have a wii and have played mw on it and you aim with the wii remote and its kinda hard.

 The Wii could've done great things, but developers just made gimmicky games aimed at children. The PS3 is far more powerful than the Wii and 360, but it's a pain to develop for, so most multiplatform games look worse on it than the 360. But that's not the debate.

 Let me point out the great games for both systems released this year:
 
 PS3 - Skyrim, Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Bulletstorm, etc.
 Wii - Skyward Sword

Well I like Wii because it offers a new perspective in gaming..."so that you do not sit but you really do the action.." on the other side I would say PS3...gives a new level of gaming (graphics) and game play.

catfight09 : Although you are right in that the PS3 is superior, if you removed the motion controls from the wii, then the wii wouldn't even be able to hold a candle to the gamecube XD. The motion controls are pretty much all that there is to the wii, and if you take those away for comparision's sake, it's like comparing the PS3 with a downgraded gamecube with crappier controls, but better UI.

PS3: Better features

Wii: Better games.

Either way I enjoy them both equally.

NovemberJoy : Ratchet and Clank Future A Crack in Time, Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction, 3D Dot Heroes, Sonic Generations, Lost Planet, Mirror's Edge, Tekken 6, The Sly Collection, WipEout HD, Portal 2, and Spider-Man Web of Shadows are a few PS3 games that are rated E, E10, and T. Those are good games, as well.

I'm 17 and can say that half those games you say are "lose" are good games. I've had a PS3 since I was 15. The PS3 also has tons of games kids can play. I really don't get the picture. I'm not saying you have a bad taste in games, or even saying you shouldn't think the way you do.  Just giving examples of games that aren't rated M, and are good.

You can't really compare the two. They are so different, that it's really not fair to compare. I honestly like both systems for different reasons.

The wii has great first party titles and is fun to play.

The ps3 is a great gaming rig to play the most cutting edge games released today.

I actually own both systems, but to be honest I kinda prefer the Ps3 a little more. Don't get me wrong I like my Wii, but I just think the ps3 has a more wider variety of games than the Wii.

NovemberJoy : You can be biased all you want. Heck, I'm try to stay away from bias, but have plenty. Like my hatred of tank controls. That said, you don't have to have played 100 games from a system to say anything about it. I have only played probably 40 for the PS3. I was unaware of anything but the words lose and win from your post because those were the only things you said.

I'm a big fan of shooters. I'm more of a sci-fi shooter kind of person. I can see why one wouldn't enjoy an FPS.

I really do not like PS3, the controler is annoying the online always freezes. So I am going with the Wiii, I like the games like PokePark 2.

I have both but I prefer the ps3, I like the controller/games better, has better online, and better hardware. To me in my opinion, the Wii has some great games, especially the exclusives, but they are outnumbered by shovel-ware, I mean casual games are fine, but do you have to overrun the library with them. The hardware is also more fragile( I just had to replace my disk drive, but I didn't over play it). I also don't like online, I don't like WiFi, and getting online is a big hassle compared to ps3, I cant even figure out how to do it again. Now I am not trying to bash the Wii, I still like it, but compared to the other consoles, it is just kind of disappointing in my opinion. But I am probably get a WiiU (Personally I think it is a stupid name, and call it something different).
