I notice a lot of people giving a lot of games a 10 for an overall score and also for graphics, story, etc. In my opinion, someone should only give out a 10 to their favorite game, otherwise the score has in a sense loses its value.

So what I was thinking about doing is only allowing users to give out a 10 to only 1 game. Likewise, maybe only allow them to give out a few 10s for graphics, a few 10s for story, sound, etc.

What do you guys think of this?

i feel that it is abused, but I also dont see it really working to well if you restrict it, "sigh".. . if only people would just be fair to each game, and still recognize it's faults, or areas were it really isn't that great even though it's one of our favorite games.

Allowing users to only give one game 10 out of 10 seems a bit too restrictive.. perhaps only allow users to score games a perfect 10 when they give it a decent review of say.. 300-400+ words?

I second what Garth says. It doesn't take much for some 10 year old to give some game 10/10 and then say "OMG POKEMAN HAK SO AWESHUM SOUND 10 OT OF TEN OTHER STUFF LIEK GRAFICX 10 oUTW OF !0000 ITS OVAR 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!", Where as I think that if someone truly appreciated a game, they would take the time to write a nice review.

I've seen some people give a few games a 10 for story and these were games that didn't even have a story. People giving out to many 10s kinda destroys the rating system in a sense, it makes it off balanced.

Well. I've only rated one game so far. I don't remember what it was. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and I decided to rate it. However. I didn't give it a 10/10 score. I gave it maybe a 9.1 or 9.2 Somewhere around it. The sound was great, The graphics sometimes lag and freezes, but nothing major. In other words. It would be fair to limit the people here with one 10/10 score until they learn how to properly rate a game, but at the same time it restricts the people to rate a game when the game deserves a 10/10 score.

The rating system is not working at all and i´m not talking about the rating in reviews...i´m talking about the other rating, which you see when you are searching for games. I never see a rating less than 6 or 7, even if the game is horrible.
Besides, having a rating like 6.8 or 3.5 makes rating harder, why couldn´t it be 1-5 or 1-10(without decimals).It´s like having 1-100.

Maybe only trusted members should do reviews(although that would suck to me since i like doing reviews...)

Davideo7 : Maybe a 'Reviewer's Personal Favourite' option would be good? There are many games that deserve a perfect 10, but personal bias comes up in every user review. Adding an option like the one I mentioned would let readers know to take the review with a pinch of salt.

rka0917 : Well a lot of other sites let you rate based on decimal and when I rate things personally I use decimal. Also, what exactly do you mean by the rating system is not working at all?


RocketsMcGuire : I did at the feature to rate reviews on 1-5 and the best reviews show up first.

I think if people actually averaged the score correctly—the sum of scores divided by the number of scores, then it would give the incentive to put more thought into the rating.

I mean that you're given the option of giving an overall score of the game; instead of it auto-averaging, you can put a overall 10 when the calculation of the individual ratings don't add up to that.

tRIUNE : You mean graphic, sound, etc - those scores? Well overall score shouldn't be an average of those scores though. A game may have little or no story, that shouldn't drop your overall score of a game. Likewise, if a game is easy to play, that shouldn't drop the overall score either (high difficulty isn't always a good thing).

You use a program to average the scores by decimal for the top-rating among all of the ratings, wouldn't it be the same? The variables contradict otherwise, or else it is just a bias review in which case, yeah, you'll have to implement the restrictions.

I'm just saying that if I give a game a rating of 1s across the board, then the overall score I give a 10, it doesn't make sense.

Lets say a rate a game like this:
Graphics: 9
Sound: 10
Addictive: 9
Story: 2
Depth: 5
Difficulty: 6
Those are my scores for Super Mario Bros and it's probably on my top 5 favorite games of all time. However, if I were to take the average of those scores, it would be 6.8 but I would give the game a much higher rating than that, probably a 9.6

Also, the various scores you can rate a game doesn't reflect all aspects of a game. Things that aren't included are things like how fun the game is but that's where the overall rating comes in. Overall should basically be based on how much you enjoyed a game. There's been plenty of games that I like a lot that have had either bad graphics, bad story or bad sound.

That clears up what overall score is; I think my angle at it is impractical now LOL. Given the number of members of Vizzed, the one rating of 10 is probably good. The few allotments of individual 10s would be too restrictive, unless it were just per game.

well it is annoying to see someone give super Mario bros a 10 for story you shouldn't cut it or allow one one 10 per day or something hopefully people will become smarter with it...i can hope at least

Davideo7 : I don't think that is an issue that can be solved through programming and web design so much as making the community aware of how a game should be rated. For example, someone could start a thread about how to rate a game professionally, so more people will learn to review more objectively when they rate games.
