There's a great number of enemies that frustrate me for quite a few reasons.
Slicer - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - These Scyther-like enemies appear in Metropolis Zone, and attempt to boomerang their blades at you to get an early hit. This often works, because the enemy is programmed to attack you before you even touch the enemy, so you can't get an early hit. And if you're always moving really fast, that just makes things worse. And if you don't get rid of him, he gets his blades back to throw them at you again, so you can't just pick up your lost rings.
Taga-Taga - Sonic CD - This little calm-seeming enemy from Tidal Tempest may look like some normal enemy. But if they decide to fire at you, they shoot two bullets which move quickly in the otherwise slow-moving level of Tidal Tempest. They get some cheap shots, with their speedy bullets, and to top it off, they swim away before you can actually pop them!
Spana - Sonic Adventure (DX) - An advanced version of the Spina, which sets off an electric charge to make it protected from Sonic's attacks for a short time. But it's not these enemies alone that get annoying, but a cluster of Spanas along with a Spina at the end, which makes for a very annoying homing-attack sequence. Which will be seen over and over again for various reasons. And in other games. With homing attack sessions. Sonic Advance series in full, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 4 Episode I, they're there in those games from the back of my memory. Some of them you can't even see the shocking final enemy until you home attack some, which by then it could be too late.
Cop Speeder - Sonic Adventure (DX) - Another enemy from Sonic Adventure, in Speed Highway specifically. But this time, the enemy can't really help being annoying. It was programmed a little improperly, having a strange hit-box, as well a delay after hitting before it actually gets destroyed, so jumping on them risks a loss of rings. On top of that, it moves with a sling-shot movement style in relation to Sonic's location, with a speed limit. In addition to that, they can bounce off one another, which makes them difficult to understand where to go to hit, especially when there's 2-4 of them in one place.
Crawl - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - This crab with a bumper for a shield can also be a big pain.. Not so much if you're trying to simply beat the game, more if you're trying to beat the game fast. Even then, they are a pain to kill because when you're mostly trying to roll into enemies, these will bounce you backward, and possibly back into places you don't want to be (Like a pinball machine section, or back into a series of bumpers) And you can't jump on them, because it will put it's shield on top of itself for protection. The only way to destroy it is by sneaking behind it. It's more of a tedious enemy to deal with, and if you aren't in dire need to kill it, just move on with your life.
Just noted down a few of the enemies that would get the better of me while playing Sonic. There's a great number of enemies that frustrate me for quite a few reasons.
