Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition
04-03-20 09:29 PM
Muffin Reviews Divinity Original Sin
Divinity Original Sin is an RPG game that has a lot of old school mechanics but has updated and slightly adapted them for the current generation of gaming.

The game was considered a success and has got a sequel which i will probably be reviewing in the distant future once i get the chance to play it.

Graphics
The graphics are solid. Obviously it will vary slightly depending on what quality settings you play it on as it's a PC game, but honestly it still is a very good looking rpg. I don't really have many complaints on how the game looks at all. The only things that i really hope they could have improved on was the variety of armor and player icon looks available. When you play a game that actually shows the gear your wearing i feel that it really adds to it if you don't constantly seem to be wearing the same gear throughout the whole game.. I played with a sword and shield and i can remember 4 shield designs in a game i played for over 100 hours.

Sound
The sound is very good, It's very immersive and it actually had me humming along at some points which is great. I actually have no issues with the soundtrack at all and a lot of the character dialogue is Voice Acted which is great also.

Addictiveness and Depth
Considering i played this with Symphonic roughly 3 times a week for 3-4 months. I'd say it was addicting enough to want to play it til it's end. I honestly probably won't play the game again as we pretty much did everything besides a couple of small quests. Considering we played for 100 hours. I'd consider this game at least addicting enough for players to want to finish. You could also play on insane difficulties and with different members so the ability to play more than once is definitely there. It even has an ironman mode if i recall

Story
The story was alright. It had a decent premise but there were parts that didn't really hit the mark for me personally. There was also a time wh... Read the rest of this Review
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X

Muffin reviews Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X
Welcome to my review of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X and yes that is quite a mouthful for a title of a game.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is a rhythm game which has a song list comprised solely of vocaloid tracks and medleys. The aim of the game is to score enough points in a song to first clear the song, these points will then be put towards an overall score for that genre and after you achieve that total score you unlock a crystal. The first time round after doing this you unlock a medley of songs that fits that genre.. Once you've done that for each genre. You can work towards getting the 2nd crystal for each one and rinse repeat.. Also you'll have to deal with questions from the Vocaloid's from time to time. And completing songs gives you random drops to gift to each vocaloid to slowly raise your friendship levels.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are good, Most of the time it's just the vocaloids in the background dancing but each song has it's own stage and there's 30 songs with the game so that's 30 stages just for the songs themselves. For me the graphics were not too distracting when actually playing the game which can actually be a huge issue with rhythm games. Each character also has lots of different costumes that give bonuses and some can be used together to get a further bonus as well. The User Interface is also easy to use and understand which is expected of games these days but for this game it's really clear on what does what and so on.

Sound
if you like vocaloids then you really like the sound of the game, if you don't then first I'm not sure why you'd play the game to begin with. And secondly sound isn't totally necessary to play the game but it does make it a bit harder with there being no rhythm to actually play to. Besides that there are options for what noises the notes make when you hit them or if you want you can make them silent. For me this is one of the most important categories when it com... Fallout Shelter

Muffin Reviews Fallout Shelter
Hey and welcome to my review of Fallout Shelter, I hope you enjoy it.

Fallout Shelter is a game that was originally a mobile phone game, it has been ported to the PS4 for some weird reason but I have no complaints. I may be recalling this wrong but I'm pretty sure the launch of this game got a bad reputation as the Fallout community wanted a decent game... and then well Fallout 76 happened.... Anyways it's essentially a simple management game that you can just play once a day (or more consistently if needs be)... So let's begin.

Also keep in mind that I will be reviewing this game as I would a PS4 game, and not a mobile game.

Graphics
The graphics for the game are actually decent, they're very simple but also effective. It especially helps that the game is pretty much in the style of the vault boy. By that I mean it's cartoonish and clean, but also recognizable. The vault dwellers also stand out from the backgrounds.
It's nothing amazing obviously but it by no means looks bad at all.

Sound
The sound design is simple but yet again effective. Events happen periodically and the sound design instantly informs you what the issue may be, whether it's fire, infestation, bandits or the mysterious stranger. Which is important as besides the mysterious man the other 3 are a detriment for your vault.

Addictiveness
As it was initially a phone game you can see how it's designed to be addictive, well addictive to those who don't mind throwing change at a game to make it go faster at least. Happily though this isn't a game that requires the sending of the monies. I've platinumed it without doing so, So for the average player they definitely can have fun without having to spend a penny. However this is one of those games that people play like once a day for five minutes.. Or pretty much not at all. If you actually launch the game and don't think it's horrible within the first hour or so... Then you'l... Read the rest of this Review
Youtubers Life: OMG Edition

Muffin Reviews Youtubers life.
Welcome to my review of Youtuber's life.. I would say I hope you enjoy it but if it's anything like the game... this review is gonna be pretty awful

Youtubers life is a game about becoming a popular youtuber. You slowly work your way from your mum's house to your own luxury abode. You can make friends or enemies on the way, make collaborations with other people and even get a significant other... Truly this game personifies what it's like to become a famous youtuber... well unless you have any sense of how the real world works at least.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are Okay, they are by no means good but not awful enough that you don't know what you are looking at... It does however look like a game that could have easily been made on a PlayStation 2. They went for this cartoonish art style that reminds me a little bit of how maple story/ portal knights looks. It's basically the generic way most cartoonish games with character creation in it look.. If that description helps at all. It's not hideous but its not good either... it's a big bag of meh...

Sound
The sound for me was just super boring, so much that about an hour into the game I just played the game on mute and actually listened to my own music, There was nothing that made me wanted to listen to any of the sound aspects at all. In fact they pretty much irritated me constantly. To give it credit I suppose, you literally need no sound to be able to play this game either.. As issues appear in thought bubbles like in Sims games. The sound is just forgettable at best

Addictiveness
This game is not addictive at all. It's a cash grab for people that like decent games like game Dev tycoon or similar management type games. The game has 3 routes to go down. Musician, Gamer and Chef. The only difference between them that I found is the things you use, e.G A gamer buys consoles and games. But the Musician buys you guessed it... Instruments and songs!...&n... Read the rest of this Review
Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Muffin Reviews Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Hello and welcome to my Review of Spyro Reignited Trilogy. I hope you enjoy it. (Insert this is review number blah blah blah here)

Spyro reignited trilogy is a remaster of the original Trilogy of games on the PlayStation 1. It is a faithful remake, by that I mean they haven't changed the way the game plays or level layouts. They have just bought the game into this generation of console.

Spyro is a purple young dragon that finds himself in 3 different adventures in this trilogy, whether it's freeing the elder dragons from crystal from Gnasty Gnorc, Saving Avalar from Ripto's clutches, or stopping a maniacal Sorceress who wants to kill all dragons and extend her rule indefinitely. He'll be collecting gems, keys, eggs and orbs on his adventures.. So get ready for a flaming time.

Graphics
The graphics for the games have been greatly improved, which honestly is to be expected from 20 years of advancement in gaming. The games haven't lost anything from transition to ps1 to ps4. The increased detail of the worlds makes them feel more magical than ever before. Whilst remaining loyal to the design of the originals.

Sound
The sound design for the game is great. They even made a new soundtrack for the games, but for those who want a nostalgia trip the original soundtracks for the ps1 games are available to use in game as well. To answer the question which one is better? I have no idea honestly, One doesn't stand above the other.. To me honestly they're both great to listen to casually.

Addictiveness
This game can be rather addictive if your a completionist. However if you played the original 3 games to completion it won't take you that long to complete all 3 games. It took me 4 days of casual game play to fully complete all 3 games. Now I assume that most players won't beat them that fast. The point is that once I beat all 3 games fully I haven't played the game again.  So essentially what I'm tryi... Read the rest of this Review
Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight

Muffin Reviews Persona 5: Dancing in starlight
Hello and welcome to my review of persona 5: Dancing in starlight. This will be my sixth review in 2019, Please enjoy!

Persona 5: Dancing in starlight is a rhythm game, In which you have to match specific buttons to the timing of the music. All of the music is from Persona 5 or are remixes of songs from Persona 5. So let's join the Persona 5 cast and get our groove on!

Graphics
The graphics for this game are gorgeous just like the base game itself. It's very vivid and bright and it's beautiful to look at. An important thing to point out is that whilst the graphics are bright and interesting to look at they don't impede the game itself by being distracting. Which is one of the hardest things to get right in a rhythm game I think personally. Besides that the graphics are clear enough to easily understand what buttons and combinations to press.  There are also a number of costumes to earn as well, with some going from silly to some being slightly exotic.

Sound
To put it simply the Persona 5 soundtrack is amazing. Now add in some remixes of songs and what you have is an enjoyable track list of songs for a rhythm game. The sounds made when pressing buttons can be changed if you find the default one annoying or you can mute them altogether if you solely want to focus on the music. Besides that you'll often here the characters who are performing their dance say lines of dialogue or have other characters encourage the one dancing. It's basically used as an indicator to tell you how well you're doing without having to look at the score/health bar.

Addictiveness
I would say that this game can be rather addictive. It really depends on how much you want to push yourself when it comes to the game. As the hardest difficulties are pretty insane. There are also modifiers that you can use that make the game easier, for example making it so missing a note doesn't affect your health/performance bar as much or ones that ma... ONRUSH

Muffin Reviews Onrush
Hello and welcome to my Review of Onrush, It's the 5th game I'll be reviewing in 2019 if I recall correctly.

Onrush is a racing game but not in the standard way. It's more of a battle racing game with set objectives, one does not simply come first by being the fastest in this game. There's several modes to try and win in, and a few car types that all have strengths and weaknesses. All the cars also have an "ultimate" ability as well.

Graphics
The graphics for the game are pretty good in my honest opinion, It has this very slight cartoonish vibe to it, for lack of a better reference it's very similar to fortnite art direction wise. Besides that awful comparison. The graphics are usually exciting to look at with explosions and car wrecks flying around all the time. It also does a slow motion replay of whenever you take another car out which is very pleasing to watch but also reminds me of Burnout quite a bit.  To summarise the graphics are good and by no means bad at all, but they're not amazing either.

Sound
The sound in this game is pretty solid. Especially when it comes to crash noises and such. It's so good in places that it's almost like you can feel the crashes at times. Besides that the music that plays when you use your ult is rather intense... Which makes it feel as it's something special and amazing to use.. Even if you don't really get anything out of it sometimes.

Addictiveness
This game is actually rather fun to play and I can definitely seeing it being fun to play with people online with. At no point did I think the game was truly boring to play. However it's also likely that I wont pick the game up unless I'm playing against someone else. The variation of the modes helps a lot in terms of not making the game get stale and the game tries to award you for playing by giving you different title cards for use online for reaching goals within the game, so for completionists it will t... Portal Knights (Gold Throne Edition)

Muffin Reviews Portal Knights
Hello and welcome to my review of portal Knights, It will be the 4th game I Review in 2019

Portal Knights is a game that takes a lot from its predecessor Minecraft, except it adds a different lick of paint and adds a few other extras in it that are enough to differentiate it from Minecraft. Your aim is to find Portals and slowly make your way through various worlds with different biomes, whilst helping people along the way, aka doing quests. Will you become a Portal Knight or will you just become another pathetic Knave

Graphics
The art style for portal knights is very simple but effective. It's landscapes are similar to minecraft in the fact that they are blocks, but the graphics are more detailed and have a nice cartoonish feel to them. The worlds are often beautiful and fit a specific theme such as a Frozen Tundra, A world with lots of marshlands and lakes. Gorgeous grasslands and several more. The thing that I like the most is the character models though. They are very cutesy but they have put effort into making the gear you can find on your adventure different, by that I mean unlike minecraft where the armor simply changes colour, the armor changes design completely and most of them look pretty cool in my honest opinion.

Sound
The sound is alright, but nothing spectacular. The sound effects for combat are nice and clear and enemies sometimes give clear audio cues on when they're going to attack whilst others only give visual cues. The music in the game for me was forgettable and a bit repetitive so much so that I literally was listening to my own spotify play list after about 2 or so hours of playing the game. The sound design isn't bad.. It's just not very interesting or memorable at all.

Addictiveness
I would say that this game is rather addictive, especially if you play the game with friends as it's multiplayer. It reminds me a lot of minecraft and of no man's sky. Where if you love the game and don't mind... Read the rest of this Review
Burnout Paradise Remastered

Muffin Reviews Burnout Paradise
Hello there and welcome to my third review of 2019,I hope you enjoy it!

Burnout Paradise Remastered is a racing game with the twist of being able to wreck your opponents by slamming them into walls and traffic. It's also open world, so there is no actual track racing in the game so to speak of. You simply race from one point of the map to another.. With the route being left up to you. The game also relies on its boost mechanic which is basically Nitrous, which you can regain by driving dangerously and not crashing, by wrecking other cars.. Or by jumping off ramps.

Graphics
The graphics for the remaster are great, this being one of the main improvements over the original game, Crashes look more impactful, damage on cars shows a lot more and the cars themselves look better as well. Another thing to point out is that due to the better graphics it actually makes the game easier. As with the previous one when going really fast everything just became a blur and at times it was impossible to actually sometimes see a barrier or oncoming traffic.

Sound
The soundtrack to this game was amazing ranging from it's theme Paradise City by Guns N Roses to Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne, The actual sound of the cars is enjoyable to listen to as well. You actually sound like you're driving at an insane speed and that a single mistake will be costly. The sounds made when hitting/crashing objects is impactful as well.

Addictiveness
I would actually say the game can be pretty addictive, It's a game that can be insanely fun to play with friends online. The game also encourages you to beat everything by constantly giving you new cars to find and destroy after unlocking to get for yourself. Also the remastered version comes with a year full of DLC as well. Back when DLC was actually a new concept and meant adding decent worthwhile extra content.

Story
There isn't much of a story honestly, you just keep trying to win events and afte... Read the rest of this Review
Project CARS

Muffin reviews Project Cars
Welcome to my review and thoughts on the game Project Cars. It's the 2nd game I shall be reviewing in 2019 so let's continue this streak of review writing!

Project cars is a racing car simulation game. It features a multitude of different vehicles and car class types ranging from go karts to high spec endurance racing cars. In short it was a game designed around giving a realistic driving simulation and we shall see if it manages to do so.

Graphics
The graphics in Project Cars are actually rather good. Which in this day and age is almost pretty much expected of any racing simulation game. The cars look nice, the tracks that it replicates in the game are similar to the ones in reality, the only thing that lets it down is that the tracks feel barren of life. It seems pretty pointless to me to go through the effort of bringing these tracks into the game if you're not going to make it a proper race day experience. The game also features a fully functioning day and night system and different weather patterns as well that are executed brilliantly and really make the game more diverse and not as bland looking.

Sound
Believe it or not most of the sound in the game is generic engine sounds, after all it is a racing simulation game so there really wasn't that much to be surprised about. The sounds are good and actually make you feel like you're driving a proper car. The only thing that stands out is that sometimes your race engineer will randomly spout a sentence on how the race is going.. Which isn't a bad thing.. But it does get rather repetitive when you hear the same 5-10 voice lines over and over again.

Addictiveness
For me personally this is just another run of the mill racing game. If you like driving cars around a track there's not much that this game offers that other games of the same genre don't too. I did complete a 24 hour race in real time... So yes I played this game for 24 hours straight, but I wouldn't rea... Read the rest of this Review
Superhot
01-18-19 11:09 AM
Muffin Reviews Superhot.

Hello and welcome to my review of the game Superhot. It’s the first game on my 2019 list so lets head straight to the review shall we?

Superhot is a action/fps game where you have to defeat enemies. The gimmick to the game is that time moves when you move. So you can for example see bullets slowly coming towards you at super slow motion then as soon as you move they become normal speed. When you clear the stage it then shows you a replay of the whole level but in real time.

Graphics
The graphics in Superhot are very minimalist, Every single non-interactive object such as set pieces and backgrounds are white, Whilst weapons are black and enemies are red. Its simplicity in its design makes it easy to pick up and play, whilst still being visually appealing at the same time.
During the story elements of the game you’re basically looking at a very early and basic chat room. So it sticks to the very simple aesthetic throughout the game.

Sound
There is actually not a whole lot of sound in this game. Most of it is just sound effects such as the firing of guns or the typing of a keyboard, or even the ever constant chanting of “Superhot”. The only thing of note is that there is no ammo counter for your weapons so they use sound cues to tell you that it’s out of ammo. Which is actually more useful than it sounds.

Story
The story is very basic and tries to be interesting but for me I never really got invested in it. The story is basically the game trying to get you to convince others to play the game and to throw away your humanity to join the games hive mind/core. The objectives for nearly every mission is the same thing also.. Kill the bad guys.

Depth
Despite the main story probably taking a couple of hours to beat for the average gamer there is actually a lot of depth and re-playability to the game, It mostly consists of challenge modes and an endless mode as well. H... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic the Hedgehog

Tyri Reviews Sonic 1
Hey there this is a review for Sonic The Hedgehog on the Genesis.

I am actually a huge nerd and a huge fan when it comes to the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games. Mainly because the first console I owned myself was a Sega Mega Drive, which is known as the Genesis in America.. Since then I have pretty much spent the last 20 years enjoying Sonic Games.. Though let's be honest recently they've been a bit lacking in maintaining quality.. Anyway enough about me, let's focus on the game

Graphics
The graphics in Sonic The Hedgehog are actually pretty decent considering it was one of the first games out for the Genesis. The sprites all look amazing and there's not really any huge graphical issues or glitches.. Sonic as the main character always stands out which is vital in a 2D platformer. Also the backgrounds of the levels whilst very basic at times do not distract from the action in the foreground., It just adds more atmosphere to each zone whilst not being overly busy. They also do some neat effects such as slowly morphing birds into fish in the special zones. Which believe it or not was pretty advanced at the time. Overall there's nothing inherently wrong with the graphics at all and everything is clean and easy to spot as well.

Sound
The sound for Sonic the Hedgehog is also rather good in my opinion, With many of the tracks being memorable. The music fits well with the stage and also due to the nature of the Genesis sound chip (aka the Genesis Twang) It makes some of the levels music sound amazing such as Scrap Brain Zone. The music I would say is usually at a lower tempo than the more recent Sonic Games however.. With the later sonic games there more about fast beats and guitars. Whilst Sonic 1's Soundtrack is relatively relaxing. Overall the Music is great.. But as it's a Sonic game that really shouldn't be that surprising

Addictiveness
Honestly speaking I don't really find Sonic the hedgehog 1 that addictive or re... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Tyri Reviews Sonic 2!

Imagine a peaceful world full of cute woodland creatures minding their own business, When suddenly a menacing egg-shaped human captures them and turns them into his mindless minions. Who is the one to try and defend these helpless critters. None other than the blue blur himself Sonic The Hedgehog.

Together with his new sidekick Miles “Tails” Prower they must make their way through several different environments, including such places as a chemical plant, A gigantic casino and even a giant space station. To try and fulfill their mission to stop the Evil Ivor Robotnik and to save their friends!

Sonic and Tails have a total of 11 Zones to try and navigate through, These Zones are as follows
Emerald Hill Zone- 2 Acts
Chemical Plant Zone – 2 Acts
Aquatic Ruin Zone - 2 Acts
Casino Night Zone – 2 Acts
Hill Top Zone – 2 Acts
Mystic Cave Zone – 2 Acts
Oil Ocean Zone – 2 Acts
Metropolis Zone – 3 Acts
Sky Chase Zone – 1 Act
Wing Fortress Zone – 1 Act
Death Egg Zone –  1 Act

The stages slowly increase in difficulty as you become more accustomed to the mechanics of the game and the scale that the difficulty increases by is fair, There is no sudden spike in difficulty either. So people who fail to beat the game on a first sitting will easily be able to pick it up again without feeling like they have been cheated.

The level design is also very solid, There are multiple pathways in each act. Some which can prove more tricky than others. There are also routes that people who have played Sonic 2 for years have not noticed such as the passage in Chemical Plant Act 2, That skips the water escape section and leads you straight next to the boss fight with
invincibility.

The graphics for this game are solid and are very visually entertaining to look at, Sonic and Tails easily stand out all the time, regardless of... Read the rest of this Review
