Super Metroid 11-20-11 10:30 PM |
Super Metroid Review When I was younger, My cousins had an SNES. And to be honest, they had an assortment of great games. However, there was one game they didn't have, one that happened to be better than all of the games in their library. No, not Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid. This game is considered by many to be one the greatest games of all time, and after playing it for myself, I agree. At the very least, It is the best game on the SNES (don't worry; A Link to the Past is in a close second). Now let's start this review! Graphics The SNES really had some great graphics, even for as old as it is. I mean, some of those games look better than games today. One such game is Super Metroid. Whilst it was overshadowed graphically by Donkey Kong Country, that doesn't mean it had bad graphics. In fact, the graphics in this game were astounding! From the very instant you were thrown into this game, you were investigating a dark, dimly lit, yet still quite detailed space station. And that's only the beginning. From there, you have to navigate a desolate, rain drenched surface, the rain in the background looking great for that time. Then before you know it, your thrown into a series of dark caves, overgrown underground jungles, the ruins of a massive spaceship, a beautiful underwater location, the insides of a volcano, and the mechanized nest of Mother Brain. And every site is absolutely beautiful and unique, making this game all the more fun to explore. 8/10 Sound Oh....My.....Lord...... That's what people thought when they first heard this game's music. From the beginning of the game, the music is perfect for whatever situation you are in. The Ceres space colony music is mysterious and eerie, the Crateria music is adventurous, and also a tad dark. Brinstar's music fits the jungle theme perfectly, and the music for lower Norfair is ... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario 64 08-27-11 12:30 AM |
The Most Revolutionary Game Nintendo Made When you think of Mario, odds are two games come to mind: The original NES legend, and Super Mario 64. That is because those two games each pioneered a genre, and changed gaming forever. Super Mario 64 may not have been the first 3D platformer, but it was certainly the first one to get it right. Out of all games on the N64 (aside from Ocarina of Time), this game is easily the best, and is not only a revolutionary game, but an extraordinarily fun game as well. Graphics Compared to games now, you might think, "the graphics on this game are awful." Well, for that time, Mario 64 was actually quite advanced graphically. This game was among the first to utilize 3D graphics, and as such is an incredibly revolutionary title in that aspect alone. The game had some pretty locations, some advanced animations and cool looking characters for the time. Nonetheless, there are some games on the N64 (star fox 64, super smash bros, etc.) that put the visuals here to shame, not to mention the fact that the SNES had somewhat better looking visuals, if only for being 2D. 8/10 Sound Music in Mario has always been upbeat and fun, but Mario 64 kicked it up a notch in the music department, bringing us some truly amazing themes. From Bob-Omb Battlefield, to Bowser in the Sky, there is no song in this game that doesn't give off that amazing Mario feel. However, if I had one complaint, a very minor one, it would be that the sound effects, such as Bowser stomping, Mario jumping, or whatever, sound just a tad unreal. However, in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing 10/10 Addictiveness All Mario games are addictive, and contain a vast assortment of secrets and fun gameplay hooks that made us come back for more, but none were as big or as fun as Mario 64. The game not only featured over a dozen levels that were vast and fun to explore, but the sheer number of bosses, missions, and just random fun that you could behold would make you come back for... Super Mario Bros 3 08-19-11 05:20 PM |
Super Mario Bros 3 Review Mario is a legend; He is more recognisable than Mickey Mouse, and is the icon for video games. Two games are responsible for this phenomenon known as Mario; the original Super Mario Bros, and Super Mario Bros 3. Whilst the first is an unbelievable game, even today, make no mistake, Super Mario Bros 3 takes everything that is wonderful about the original and kicks up to the next level. Graphics Despite it's 8 bit appearance, this game is actually quite a beauty. Compared to the original's slightly generic and simple visuals. Mario's third adventure is a rainbow of colors, showing Mario running through Grassy plains, sandy deserts, underground pipe worlds, and many more. The graphics weren't the best the system has seen, though for the day they were state of the art. 7/10 Sound How can you not love 8 bit music? Super Mario Bros 3 brought even more of Mario's wonderful tunes to the mix in this game, bringing a diverse set of upbeat and fun music to the table, from the iconic music of world 1, to the wonderful airship music, to my personal favorite, the water world theme. This music may not be as iconic as the original's, but from start to finish this music is just pure fun. 9/10 Addictiveness This is Mario game, for crying out loud! Mario games are meant to be fun and addictive, and this one is a big one. Playing this game just once is virtually impossible; even if you manage to beat the game in one go, you won't get enough. You'll go back for the secrets, or just for the fun of running through the worlds and beating up the Koopalings yet again. This game is absolutely addicting, and one of the most memorable games in the franchise. 9/10 Story Mario games may not be the most story orientied game in the NES library, but if you play it, you'll actually see a somewhat interesting story.. Bowser has returned, but he's not just interested in taking taking over the Mushroom Kingdom; He wants the whole entire WOR... Read the rest of this Review |
